Hey Ruff idk if you remember but the Vice Admiral from Robin's backstory is actually the lava Admiral. Ice man was there yes to save her but Lava was there too and he is the one who ordered all the ships with survivors to be sank.

Yeah. Garp is in a hard position. He has been a navy man his whole life and he believes in the good they do. (Even if some are assholes.) His name also carries a lot of weight and symbolism. He wanted Ace and Luffy to follow in his footsteps, part of it because he wants them in the navy and also to give them some protection from their fathers legacy. However they didn't choose that path and he respects their decision in some way, but they also have to take responsibility for their decision. This is why he wouldn't stop the execution. They chose the life of pirates and this is the punishment. That doesn't mean he is okay with seeing them die. And he is especially angry over the fact that they are using Ace execution as a promotional stunt with revealing his father's name etc. Which was why he was so angry a couple of episodes ago. So yeah. I wouldn't want to be in his position. TT-TT It breaks my heart to see him and Ace breaking down. Garp for being torn and feeling he failed Ace, and Ace for being the cause of this war and seeing people he cares for suffering and die around him. QAQ

Luffy is a chaotic good. Most of the people who suffer any because of Luffy probably deserved it. But I think Garp is going to have his chance to choose again. this time he stuck by the marines (mostly). But Oda loves to reutilize ideas he has used before but in different context, or with a new twist.. i really hope that something happens where this time Garp has his chance and chooses family.

I don't have a child but I understand (not empathetically) how having a child means things hit you differently. The woman I fell in love with, she also changed anime for me. Before, I was pretty heartless but now, if there is a scene where someone loses a loved one, I understand and cry my eyes out because I know how much it would hurt to lose the woman I love.

Ruff I watched a breakdown on Garp as a character I would link it but it does have future spoilers so won’t. The basic takeaway is that Garp has his own ideals and is a symbol of the Marines around the globe. When most people in the world of One Piece think of the Marines Garp is the image they conjure so knowing that as much as he wants to keep Ace alive he can’t do that to the people who still think of the Marines as good. That is why he tried so hard to make Ace and Luffy be marines because if they didn’t he knew they could get executed and he wouldn’t be able to stop it. He wanted them desperately to just be safe but couldn’t make them do it. He knows he will have to live with the consequences of not stopping the execution whatever they may be.

Garp is one of my favorite Characters in all of anime! The contradiction and role conflict that he has between family and work is exemplified in him in such a way where it is actually hard to come up with a true answer. Garp wanted to protect them by joining the navy since they are both sons of criminals. Luffy and even Ace aren't model people either. They both have done bad things but it is difficult to tell because they are protagonists in the story. It isn't as clear cut as Omni Man and Invincible where Omni Man is obviously a massive dick for choosing viltrum over his family. The scene with Garp sitting down on the scaffold next to Ace pretty much breaks me every time. It's soo good.

I'm not a father....but if I watched when I was younger, this arc wouldn't have hit me as hard. As I got older....family things happen and you just become a crier again like when you were a little kid. The whole dynamic with Garp being involved, and the flashback...Oda created a masterpiece, truly came into his craft to just fuck with you mentally...but still will just make you laugh to try and ease up on that. Luffy and the squad coming in is just hype and hilarious. He's not a pure monster....He's Chaotic Neutral. Saying that, save us some tissues, bro 😥

Gear 2 is a boost to all of luffys stats whereas gear 3 is a major boost to strength only. They are situations where one is better but neither is "better" than the other.

Weirdly, the only time One Piece has made me cry was the scene with Garp at the start. The most amazing thing to me is how the chapter seemlessly goes from hype with Whitebeard, to pure sadness, to being hilarious at the end.

so it turns out you're pretty close to correct. According to my calculations, at your current rate of 3 episodes a day & 2 days a week it will take almost 4 weeks to get through Marineford proper. Of course there's also the aftermath to deal with much like the one with Enis Lobby, though I'm sure that you know it won't have the same mood no matter what, and that will take another 4 weeks (including a single filler episode, and it's a crossover with another series.) So you might wanna ditch the paper towels and either get some quality tissues or at least a couple rolls of Charmin, as this rollercoaster ride isn't over yet.

I think the reason Garp wanted Ace and Luffy to join the navy was to protect them. He thought if they joined and proved to be good soldiers, the government would see them as more than just their father's sons.

^this And to add on the dog, pheasant, and monkey are part of a Japanese folk tale wherein the 3 animals join a boy on a quest. The monkey is air-headed (dumb), the pheasant is lazy, and the dog is loyal. Like the 3 admirals. Also the boy's name is Momotaro and he goes to Onigashima island to save his land from Demons (Oni).

Hey Senpai, I wanted to give some translation info on the admirals cause it's cool context: They all have a colour and animal in their name so Aokiji means blue pheasant and is Kuzan's admiral alias, Kizaru means yellow monkey and is Borsalino's alias, Akainu means red dog and is Sakazuki's alias... Sakazuki is the one who blew up the passenger ship on Ohara... He's a fukin dog Furthermore, the admirals are all inspired by famous japanese actors and even have the same faces as the real people
