The Japanese is シャボンディ which transliterates to shabondi. SHA as in "shaman", BON as in "bone", and DI as in "deep". (Although this misses a little bit of nuance with there sort of being a glidey "y" in the sha --> shya, and "n" being its own syllable, but we can leave those alone I think.) I haven't seen the comments, but I would guess the biggest issue they're taking is that you're saying BON as in "bond" not BON as in "bone".

It's only spelled Sabaody because Oda romanized Shabondi that way. Has nothing to do with Japanese accents. Has everything to do with English localizers using the official spelling (Sabaody) and changing the pronunciation to match the letters. Japanese kanji and romaji, in fiction at least, has a lot more freedom. For example, the "Grand Line" is spelled using kanji and hiragana. But it is pronounced "Grand Line" like English, and this pronunciation is given in katakana. If none of that made sense to you, you shouldn't be telling people it has something to do with accents because you're just misinforming people. The best English example would be Xing and Xmas. How the X is pronounced depends on context. Crossing and Christmas. Japanese allows for this on a wide scale. You could say "HOME" is pronounced "Canis Lupis" if you wanted. And in such a fictional world, those letters would carry the phonetic sounds for Canis Lupis even though that makes no sense in English. It's spelled Sabaody because Oda is making a pun. "Shabon" is Japanese for bubble, and sabao in Portuguese means soap. So he romanized it as "Sabaody" but it is pronounced "Shabondi."

happy to get the filler for these where about episodes but the 2 filler episodes aren't really worth it for the reaction. They literally just recap episodes and add nothing new tbh. 457 & 458 were helpful for weekly watchers bc it's been years since the saga began., but that's not the case now

Man I do not agree with the anime pacing at all. In the manga there are hardly any cutaways to strawhats, so the arcs flow right into each other. By the end of the saga Oda puts you in Luffy's mindspace by having you just as tired and lonely as he is due to the insane pace of this saga.

Yes this is correct. “Shabondy” is the correct Japanese pronunciation and “Sabaody” is the correct English pronunciation. Meaning it doesn’t matter which one you use they are both correct. It’s just that the difference between languages changes how they are pronounced

The reason people say you are saying it wrong is because it’s pronounced differently in the dub. In the dub it’s Saba-O-Dee in the regular version its Shabondy

They say “Shabondi” in Japanese as “Shabon” is the word for soap bubbles. This is borrowed from the Cebuano word “Sabon”. This doesn’t make sense in the west so they localised it to “Sabaody”, which comes from the word “Sabão”, the Portuguese word for Soap
