Goda (Oda) is a masterful story teller pure and simple. The length of the series is a major part of it, allowing him to do it. More series need to take the time to establish the characters. Other series can't even get a tear out of me because that connection isn't there. But Goda you beautiful mother fucker... he has me crying over the Merrys funeral despite having very little established character all because he got me attached to the rest of the crew. Then you watch the Anime and it has this music and the Merry's voice and the voice acting. Goddamnit.

Nameless guys with devil fruits that get thrown in the sea. For sure are dead.. I remember like two guys that fell/thrown off the sea train and no one got them. Even if they didn't have devil fruits the crazy waves (maybe even hypothermia or something) and sea monsters probably got to them..... And I like how the Strawhats injuries get healed quickly.. Wasn't Usopp severely injured too by the "third" strongest CP9 wolf who punched him several times? Hahah he's just so durable

This always hits me way harder on a rewatch now, and by God the end of the Merry Go still has the ability to ruin me. It's been foreshadowed for so long and the tension has been so absurdly high through Enies Lobby that it's really nice to be able to cap it off with one long emotional blow to finish it. What a magical series, man.

I was confused then because I was caught up to your reactions on Patreon and you were nowhere near episode 312 yet. Then I finally saw your reaction to when you thought Merry was done for after CP9 kidnapped Franky. I almost spoiled Merry’s true death back then when you posted. I was going to comment and mention Merry’s death. Luckily I didn’t. I would’ve felt like shit if I’d have spoiled it for you. Great reaction btw. Top tier as usual.

I'd say to watch the filler. It's only three episodes, they are pretty enjoyable, and some stuff is still going on in the background. It's similar to the couple Alabasta episodes he watched.

Agreed by the time we get to Dressrosa there is so much going on the pacing is gonna be rough if you want to tell everything right but it still makes for a great arc, to me WCI is the worse offender but also still a great arc

Ruff senpai, I love your reaction and your passion over One Piece, it is raw and passionate, just like I do. I am also emotional attached to the story and every single characters, especially all strawhats. In my opin there is no such thing about bad arc in One Piece. Yeah some fans might say about pacing but looking back it may be necessary, with all build-up and reveal so that the pay off is enormous. Maybe sometimes fans are impatient especially to wait in weekly basis for the story-telling but who knows. Sometimes I would wonder if not with those build-up will I feel such completeness when the story pay-off? I have no answer for others but to me the definite answer is nothing to any series will give such content and emotional attachment compared to One Piece. I have re-watched One Piece for dozens times, sometimes myself and sometimes with reactors like you, every time I am still emotional and still earn fondness of every single characters. It is masterpiece. I am so glad and appreciate you enjoy.

Not sure if this explanation for the Merry is solid, but since ships have their own spirit (Klaubautterman), they can do things like repair themselves in (Skypeia) and sail out on their own (when Kaku dropped the Merry, it got sent out to sea during the Aqua Laguna) if you remember Franky’s explanation about how the ship becomes like a person. Oh and I just remembered Ice Berg fixing it up. Wish we got more of an explanation of than that, but I still cried when Merry came lmfaooo

I can tell Ruff's investment in the series has advanced to the next level. Can't wait to see your reactions from here. This is still one of my favorite arcs but it does still get better in some ways from here on out.

Cipher Pol and the Marines are two separate entities under the World Government, so Lucci doesn't actually have any military rank, he's just part of the secret spy intelligence group. As far as chain of command, Lucci answers to Spandam who answers to the Gorosei/Five Elder Stars or you could just say the World Government. Someone like the Vice Admirals on those battleships would answer to the 3 admirals like Aokiji, who answer to Sengoku the fleet admiral, who answers to the World Government Commander-In-Chief, who answers to the Gorosei.
