Gear 2 is easy to explain, because Luffy's heart is made of rubber, the high-boiling blood pressure doesn't harm him as a normal person, this is a great example of mastering a devil fruit. And I am not sure, but you still be bugging about Zoro's storm/cannons atacks, but it was mastered at skypea if you have forgotten.

Ruff to answer your question about “Is this the turning point for One Piece”, I would say that the Water 7 Saga is where One Piece went from good to amazing. The Sagas later on solidify it as a Masterpiece in storytelling and more! It only gets better. Even the current arc right now a 1002 chapters in will be another turning point in the story. You’ve got some life changing episodes coming your way 😤💯
