Weekly roundup 2/15

Comments

Her myr rating is shown in the recent chapter where she talks to apophagorga. It's "past 200"

We need a chapter where she shows her myr rating πŸ€” also would be nice to see her goofing off maybe hanging with her dad or introducing him to her adoptive family. I would also like to see her do a loop just going to school again realizing she forgot a lot of stuff that happens and acting every test as its so simple to her now.

I wrote 3 books and ran them by critique groups prior to this, but nothing that's published. Thanks!

It’s time for me to declare my ship. Mirian and Ceiba Yan. I think the way they communicate and work in harmony is so cute.

Hey is this your first attempt at writing or do you have any prior works? Because if not, I'm incredibly impressed that you managed to create something so complex, compelling and fun on your first go.

HelloDexter

The last couple chapters hit me in a weird way- the time skips were absolutely gigantic, and there were huge changes that were glossed over, like Marian entering her first long term relationship and generally going from following a young or middle aged person to an old lady. (Great writing btw) The speed of the skips made me feel rushed, and when the book ends on a cliffhanger I get no closure. All the changes are unresolved. If the next chapter or two ends the loop, and the rest of book 5 is fixing the world outside the loop, I might consider adding those 1-2 chapters to the end of book 4.

The ending of this book felt satisfying but doesn't hit the same highs as the endings of previous books? Some of my favorite sections to re-read are Mirian's reunion with adoptive family and her reunion with her dad which are the endings of book 2 and 3. I felt the peak of this book was the Unmoored visit and the following meetings with Ibrahim and Liuan, the chapters after are interesting but mostly setup the next arc. That being said, this is the first time where I was caught up, so being able to read through multiple chapters a day vs waiting a few days for a single chapter probably had an influence on this feeling. Looking forward to the chapters where Mirian saves all her past friends and spends time with them since certainly nothing will go wrong in the final loop riiggghhhttt? ;-;

Perhaps reading this over 3 weeks exacerbated the issue and its not apparent if you're reading it all together. That being said, if this was an actual book, I would find the last few chapters unsatisfying as an ending.

I think the last few chapters were lacking tension. I read your comment below on focusing on the 'not knowing' part but I think that could've been explored more or better. Like the thing with Jherica building something. Xecatl not being able to handle the memories. Liuan, Gabriel, etc being mentally affected. It was mentioned sure, but never really given any screen time. There was never really a question of "Will the temporal anchors make it before the Prophets go insane". At this point, that's the only issue(as far as we know) remaining and I feel that that tension was never played up textually.

I'm guessing you might have been feeling the anticipation of this upcoming extremely exciting arc, and have slightly rushed some things? That's kind of the vibe I'm getting at least. The story is still good, but I'm a sucker for the pace and tone of the earlier parts. This is no doubt one of the less important/interesting arcs, an interim arc in between the actually very exciting bits of story that are also the most fun to write, the part of the story we've been building up to this entire time. The finale, the end, it's finally in sight. I'm certainly excited for it too, but this last handful chapters, have felt a little like, floaty? Unfocused? Rushed? I'm not sure, but those are some of the words that come to mind. I feel they've been less that what they could have been, the buildup to the final cycle is just a little underwhelming. I'm definitely interpreting wildly on your thoughts/feelings here, let me know if it's too much I absolutely /adore/ this story, and am so so excited too

Overall I really like this book. But the last few chapters could have a bit more to them I think, as has been said by others too, I felt they were a bit too fast. A few more conversations with the other prophets. Watching them slowly lose it on-screen instead of off-screen. More of Ibrahims personal journey! Giving a resume of it later isn't the worst but it's a little disappointing. He's a very compelling character and seeing his journey first hand would probably be more interesting than it just happening somewhere else, and getting told about it later. And one thing I'm missing especially; Mirians relationship with Zhuan, I would really have loved to see that develop more on-screen. The few hints we've seen of it have been really cute and I loved them, but I really wish we'd had at least a heartfelt conversation, or /something/, what happened? When did they both figure out this was something they wanted? And what does it mean to them? What does the relationship look like? They have each other to lean on, how does it help them stay sane in the loop? How do they compare to the others because of it? These are some of the questions I wish we had actual answers for. For some of these things to be on-screen and not off-screen. This isn't a romance and I don't want it to be tbh, but it feels a shame to have the main characters relationship of a century happen almost entirely off-screen. (or however long passed in between last few chapters) This has to have affected Mirian in some serious ways, show them to us! In conclusion of rant; I would have loved one or maybe two more chapters worth, (not necessarily preceding this one but spread throughout the last 5 or so), of all the things mentioned, and especially that building anticipation for the approaching final loop, everyone must be feeling it! draw it out a bit! The ending of this arc was good but this is not a fast paced story and the last few chapters have felt fast in comparison. Anyway! Love the Story and am really looking forward to the Last cycle!

I'm hoping we'll get to see the world after the loop. Most time loops stories end with the loop, but this story has such wide reaching events that it feels just stopping with the loop would feel lackluster. I'm also curious to see how the prophets react to all the non-loopers being people again, who they can't manipulate with the loops.

Fake User We Made Up

I've already given my predictions and expectations of unfinished plotlines (what i consider to be chekhov's guns) in a comment on a recent chapter. Not gonna rehash those. What I AM wondering though, is if book 5 will all just be the final loop (very in detail like we had for the spellbook and Equinox), or if there will be a betrayal and Mirian will have to retry in a next loop, or if it will all be about what comes after the loops. Like finally catching up with everyone, ramping down spell engine use, writing down all the history, protecting the leyline regulator, exploring the Jiandzhi with her dad and uncovering new Viaterrian secrets, or settling down in Madinahr in a little unassuming artifice shop (hehe).

Not sure if the peak of humanity is Elder Godhood. Mirian is at about the same, or higher, power range as the Elder Guardians, yet has nothing when it comes to time. It is possible that humans don't reach Elder Godhood but 'only' Godhood. Or maybe, Mirian will become an Immortal (with a capital 'I' (like in Xianxia)). Or none of the above.

Mr NerfGun

I'm most looking forward to the moment Mirian becomes an Elder God (it's been signposted so much) and gets into their politics. And also her finally getting the full explanation of what happened for Enteria's whole history including the reason why other Prophets were called upon in their own time. And I want to see the prophet's and gate controller's reactions. The final loop looks to be juicy too ofc.
