And then once I started thinking ot outloud is just snowballed

Back to the soulmates

For ultimate angst

Because of Nocts position LOTS of people have tried to say theyre his soulmate because his mark is common knowlege

And it appears when you meet your soulmate but theyre all the same so there was no doubt with the boys because they all realised together

And theyve had so many fakes

and people claiming they had theirs appear when meeting the boys

And then you have Prompto who is legit and his appears

Im imagining they meet a bit later for the sake of the angst

So like he tells them and they scoff

And he's like 'But...the mark????'

'It's pretty good kid - i'll give you that but we have heard about Niff tech in that area so we don't believe you'

So he's pretty outright rejected

SO THEN

He and Noct end up in the same class and there probably is a pull to Prompto 

But he's like 'actually screw you guys - I don't need a soulmate - I've managed this long

And he is civil but doesnt make any more efforts - his pride is probably pretty burned too

Imagine theres a moment later where the boys are collecting Noctis from school

And they catch a peek of Proms mark and theyre like 'you're still keeping it up??'

'Uhh, I can't exactly get rid of it can I?'

'Makes sense with my luck that I would get shitty soulmates'

'Excuse me???'

Maybe the boys are starting to feel a bit of discomfort

like the whole soulmate sickness thing but for them its minimal because they HAVE some of their soulmates

Prom on the other hand, he's not doing so good

Its probably a way of forcing the relationship

like you just feel so good around your soulmates that you cant help but want to be together

So like whenever Prom is around Noctis he improves

Noctis feels more at ease too

The boys are probably like 'WELL....telling us to fuck off at every opportunity is DEFINITELY a different approach...haha...haaa....'

theyre probably so happily in love with eachother that when they met Prompto they didnt notice that surge of happiness

or just thought it was them being saps for each other

But yes I imagine this has done wonders for Promptos self worth

MAYBE

Niflheim has been making tech for soulmates

But its more for ways to actually get rid of it

like - it doesnt make for the best worker drones when they're not able to be away from soulmates for a prolonged time

So like maybe theyre trying to phase out soulmates under the guise that it affects your autonomy

but really they just want their soldiers at their peak

But its also become useful for people in Promptos situation who were rejected by their soulmate

So they dont DIE from the sickness

like you often see fics where people are in happy relationships without meeting their soulmate and theyre not about to drop that person

So Prompto decides he's going to get his mark removed

and that could go two ways

1. they stop him before he gets it removed

2. he actually does get it removed

The boys realise too late

Maybe he does still end up with them

MAYBE A PARTIAL scrap was left and over time it regrew

or they just end up ina happy relationship because they are perfect matches

like both options are good - the dramatic WAIT STOP D:

but also the second is probably less cliche

Like a bit different to the norm

And also lots of angst because he doesnt have that connection anymore

Yeah honestly like

Imagine him missing from college for a week and he turns up and the mark is gone

And theyre like '....the ruse is over?? youre done playing??? D: '

'Nope - had it removed'

And he's also getting healthier so his true personality that is attractive to them would also be showing

i dont know that Noct would have noticed a differnce after the removal

I think they'd just realise that he literally never had any reason to lie

They probably already were starting to doubt themselves

the sickness would have been such a giveaway

so when they ask about the mark being gone its almost like hesitant

theyve probably had conversations about if they were wrong and he is - what will they do?

Maybe they KEEP the sample frozen

Like is there a way this could be used to affect Noctis in any way

But it also made me think of like

It being reattached and the horrible scarring around it

The story can end with the redemption arc and them getting together 

but if you wanted to go more game route

You could also like

MTS and clones and the mark being applied there

They look like Prom after all

maybe Gladios scar is related to a messed up fake soulmate so they have good reason to eb wary

like i want them to have good reason to be so distrustful

imagine like teachers being like 'you dont have to come in when youre this sick kid'

'I ah....its umm....it's soulmate sickness - I dont want to miss any coursework'

'....oh....oh I'm sorry to hear that'
