Sketchbook Update 92

A bunch of style studies in this half of the update! So complete transparency, I saw this artists art and I wanted to draw like them lol. I didn't really want to just straight up copy the way they did things, so I went (presumably) to the source of their inspiration and have been drawing old cartoons and comics to try and apply some of the shorthand expressions and goofyness to my own art XD. I did like...5? 6? of those pages in one evening, I was having a blast and I definitely wanna do more! I feel quite trapped by realism sometimes, especially on funny panels where its supposed to be loose and simple. I studied worthikids stuff a while back and got a bunch of insight from that, so I wanted to do something similar again!

I did a load of oil pastels over the weekend! I keep finding youtube videos of people using oil pastels [1 2 3] and it just looks so juicy and textural and lovely, so I dug out my nasty student grade pastels that I never used, and it was so fun, I loved it! I think doing these later in the month was such a joyful way to like...celebrate things being Green and Alive u know. The pastels kind of suck ass, though.

I actually came home on this day to have lunch with my partner, and then went back out again to draw more. On the one hand, it is good to eat food. On the other I feel a bit like a kid having to go home for dinner. Don't want to! It's sunny!

Water is so hard! so hard! This was driving me mad.

Speaking of water eluding me...that first one is like, a pipe with clear water coming out and I Struggled. I feel like my favourite thing in the world is little plants next to water, and it is just so hard to convert both small plants, and also water into drawings, especially line ones. I am not quitting, though >:I.

I organised my stickers- and as I say on one of the pages, morale has greatly increased lol. I find it way nicer to go through and find what I want, and it’s very exciting. There are also collage bits and a lot of empty sections in the big one... so I mean, I had to get more stickers, right??! I hope you vicariously enjoy my embarrassingly large sticker purchase(s). I got a lot of cute sleepy ones, and also lots of little decor ones because I use those so much, they're amazing. I also tried to find 'little twin star' stickers to limited success, I did get a newer sheet, tho I think their old designs are cuter u-u.
I actually clicked on a sticker 'haul' video the other day and it was really...unpleasant. Like I say this is big, theirs was stacks and stacks of stickers, covering the desk, so many that they sped the video up and skimmed thru. I did look up the site they used and I was SO surprised that they seemed acceptably priced, I was sure it was gonna be a bulk buy knock-off stickers kinda site. It must have been like £1000+ worth ;;-;;. Dizzying!

ANYWAY back to the cute sleepy stickers I got...I don't know if I've ever talked about my bedtime doodles, you'll probably have noticed them before, and you're probably like why is mal drawing the same baby doodles all the time. I do them before bed to wind down! I feel like drawing makes my brain quiet, and since I tend to overthink in bed, it helps to put me in a simpler frame of mind beforehand. My therapist would say something something inner child something, I have not shown him these LOL. I've always been quite embarrassed by wanting to draw/liking cute baby stuff and I am trying Not To Be. (Thank u to everyone who said/says nice things abt my kidstarion stuff, it's funny that even tho I draw hardcore porn, it's the wholesome baby drawings that I feel most vulnerable abt.)

One of the biggest things I did this month was making bunny Eugene! I was really inspired by my friend Benni and all their OC dolls, and I've always been too scared to go for it before, but I had a great time and I'm really pleased with him!I took him to a church lmaooo it's always quiet but it still felt somewhat blasphemous ;P.

The original doll, and some process! I will get round to sharing process for real on my doll blog, but I wanted to show a tiny bit here! The original doll is on the left (sorry love...).
I patterned + made the clothes myself, changed the bunny feet into shoes, carved the hair away and sculpted ontop, and painted his face and eyes! (and yes there ARE 33 fake buttons thank you for asking)
I might redo his eyes, he does look more worried than intended LOL but. later!
I want to make a Cliff too >:).
