Sketchbook Update 83

[Part 83+84 both posted today] I have- as usual- saved up too much to post, but this time I'm going to split it into two parts!
I wanted to finish the AU comic I'd been working on for ages, but it ended up being 10 pages long...and I somewhat lost the will to live*. In the meantime my sketchbook was getting longer and longer, I did a lot of people sketching this month, and I was on a lot of trains, and generally waiting around with nothing better to do :P.
I got some open-able rings for my sketchbook, because the paper wasn't as solid as I'd like for painting. It's kinda important for me to keep everything together, it's like a journal, and the idea of having a folder of paintings etc hidden away was a bit sad! I also previously tied in a lot of the memo pad doodles with embroidery thread, and it was getting annoying haha. The rings aren't perfect, I did anticipate a lot more movement in the pages- so I've negated that by wrapping it with a band when I take it in my bag (Otherwise pencil will rub like mad). It's also a little awkward to turn pages, but I'm still very pleased, I can stick whatever I want into it now >:).

*[The AU comic is in the next post!]

There's also a little angsty age regressed Halsin with Astarion, because I cannot imagine that going well. (Perhaps if the other camp members were around.) Gale and astarion are both rather fixed on the 'fix it' 'how DO we fix it?' rather than the actual child that does still have feelings despite being 'temporary.'
I do want to play more with this now I've gotten my initial angsty scenario out of the way, though!

Plein airs-

Since the leaves are rapidly falling off, and the temperatures are creeping lower, I've been going outside every chance I get, and it feels quite nice to capture it in painting, before it's gone!

I've actually written blog posts about the first three plein air paintings, here (.2) and here!

I'm sorry for the wall of images, I dont think patreon allows images to be placed next to eachother... terrible site.

I thought I'd include the location photos, since I always find them fun to see! I kind of wish I was better at stylising, it's something I want to work on more. I get so into copying what I see and maybe miss some opportunities to make things more interesting.

I recommend James Gurney's youtube videos for plein air inspiration! His easel is also what I copied when I was trying to make mine (It went...questionably, but does work)
All the paintings in this post are gouache!

For both of these below, the sun was rapidly setting! I struggled with finding a location for the last one, I need to be less fussy, but the pressure to make something Good was getting to me haha. I actually had to run back to the pub for a meal with my mum, too, and on the way back the farmer was ploughing, so my usual path was cut off! I was so sweaty when I arrived ;-;.

I'm actually not particularly pleased with some of these, but I think that's good, it definitely feels better when I've made something imperfect, and I don't need to be perfect every time.

Thanks for reading! (and check out part 2!)

thank you! Light is definitely my favourite thing to draw. Also yes! They would both see him as a problem to be solved :S

I think your landscapes are cool, you are really good at capturing the sun in them. And you are right — leaving a child with Astarion and Gale would absolutely not go well

gosh, thank you, thats so nice!

Your landscape studies really make me feel something deep in my soul. I feel transported there for a moment in a sea of green. Well done!
