Life in Kuserra isn't easy, but that doesn't mean people don't still find excuses to celebrate and socialize and drink. The Shadow Festival is one such excuse. Originally the festival was intended to placate and appreciate the dark spirits responsible for all the strife and misery. The general idea is that you would cover your face with a mask, so the spirits would think you were one of them and leave you alone. Very few still believe the old superstitions, however, so now it's just a chance for people to dress up and bring out their best clothes and splash paint around and drink and hang out in the downtown area and have fun.
