2024-11-23 00:09:52 +0000 UTCOne note regarding the Maester system. OldTown sends Maesters to castles of the realm to guide and advise, no matter who is in charge at said castle. If you recall, even when Theon took over Winterfell, Maester Luwin basically tried to do his duty as much as possible. They generally don't get involved with the power struggles. The new Maester of Winterfell, whom Ramsay told to go send messages out, seems younger/fresher. He was likely recently sent once Roose Bolton took over. My guess is he was a bit surprised at the usurping of Roose, but he's bound to the castle more than whoever is currently Lord.

2024-11-21 20:59:09 +0000 UTCYup I think when she says stops before finishing priest is because she remembers when Thoros says, "So I wore the robes and every now and then id recite the prayers, but it was just for show, until the mountain drove a sword through my friend and I knelt beside him said the words not because I believe them but because he was my friend and they will the only words I knew, I knew then the lord of light was the one true god and all men must serve him" Thoros was a priest but in his own eyes he was a fake, he didnt believe hed drink and be drunk all the time whore around but had this fake persona until the one day when something truly happened to him and the lord of light finally spoke to him by bringing beric back and thus finally truly making him a real believer. I think up until now Melisandre was deceived by her faith and what she thought was the lord of light talking to her which is why she said it was all a lie like Thoros she found herself with no faith feeling like a false prophet

So the power to resurrect is not unique to Melisandre. When she said, "I met a man who came back from the dead, but the priest who did it..." She was referring to Lord Beric (guy with the flaming sword). In Season 3 we see this when the Hound killed him in combat and was brought back by the Lord of Light via the priest there. Can't wait until episode 3! Please post soon!

During the episode you remembered that Qyburn said something to Cersei about why Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) doesn't speak. He told her that The Mountain wouldn't speak until all enemies were dead.

Though I think what we all should take away is that she is not one with the power. I think that is an important distinction to make. She is just the instrument in all this, a servant to this Lord of Light god/entity/deity ... whatever term you want to use. His priests are just there to channel his power I suppose one could say. At least that is the impression I was always left with. The red woman claimed as much on many occasions. She however, as you astutely stated in the previous episode, misinterpreted the signs the Lord of Light gave her. Stannis had a role to play, that much is sure. He saved Jon from the wildlings for instance and it is clear now the Lord of Light is not done with Jon Snow since he brought him back, just like he did (many times) Berric Dondarion (the knight of the Brotherhood without Banners that fought and died to the Hound).

I'm pretty sure the Red Woman's visions were "true" but she interpreted them wrong. She saw things the way SHE wanted to see them, her goals, not the Lord of Light's. When she asked for something that wasn't for her, but for "good", like Thoros of Myr did, the Lord answered.
