another one of those workflow gifs! this time from last year's saryn piece.
some notes:
-know when to soften/erase lines, even before it's time to paint on top of them. illustration is all about eliminating unnecessary detail to let the necessary stuff tell its story.
-i started with a circular gradient to get my "light falloff", since light pointed at a sphere falls off equally in all directions. obviously this isn't enough -- saryn has plenty of plates & bumps that need to be individually lit -- but it helped create a sense of depth.
-speaking of depth: at the end, i went through and blended the edges of saryn with the background's color to suggest a little bit of atmospheric depth. as a sphere, it makes sense that her visible edges would be the parts farthest away from the viewer, and therefore stand out from the background the least. it helps ground her in the BG.
-also speaking of the BG: yes, it's a photoshop-filtered & painted-over warframe screenshot. i'm merciless.
