PROCESS VIDEO // ghost girl in gouache

Here's the process video for the gouache painting I posted earlier today! Again, it's sped up to twice the original speed. With gouache, I found I could do a watercolor-style 'underpainting' where I figure out the lighting and values of the painting before detailing it further. Going from thin, watered-down texture to thicker texture worked well! Painting light on dark is also an option but it doesn't always work that well, so I tried to keep the light-on-dark limited to final highlights. Hope you enjoy!
I switched to my desktop to view the video with better definition and it looks like a derwent coloursoft pencil in ginger?

Hi Loish, just watching this process video and the colored pencil you use to do the sketch looks so creamy. Would you mind sharing the brand?

I used about 10 colors or so! I did mix quite a lot, that's what I think is really nice about gouache. With a limited palette, you can create a lot of intermediate tones quite easily! Most of the colors I used were brown/orange, dark blue, black, and white. I mixed them all together in different ways to create the middle tones.

Good idea the diluted underpainting to see how it works ! 👍🏻 Thanks for these videos ! 😃🤩 Just a question about the gouache, how many colors did you use ? Did you make a lot of mixing ?
