Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [576]

August lightly tapped Mew’s head, rescuing the two Dreepy from Mew’s hands and returning them to Dragapult.

With August’s help, Dragapult regained its Dreepy and immediately hid them safely inside the launchers atop its head, watching Mew warily, guarding them tightly and leaving no chance for Mew to strike again.

In Mew’s eyes, however, Dragapult was just being stingy.

Just as August was about to say something, his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen—there was a message from the Chief Commissioner.

And after reading its contents…

August: “?”

They want him to double-check if this wasn’t some mistake?

He quickly dialed the Chief Commissioner's number. The Chief obviously expected August's call and immediately started with a heavy sigh, “This wasn’t my idea, it’s from the League Council.”

“The Council thinks everyone’s part of the League, so they want to take this opportunity to mend the relationship between you and Rose.”

“......”

August was left speechless by the League Council’s latest stunt.

Mend the relationship? A bit late, aren’t they!

Acting like they weren’t the ones who allowed Rose to mess around and alter the World Championship rules in the first place.

And now, suddenly they want to smooth things over?

“Forget it…” August couldn’t even be bothered to argue with them anymore.

Although he pretty much guessed this was yet another scheme from Rose to divert his attention.

“Chief, I'm in the middle of the World Championships. Don't you think this is unfair to our Kanto Branch?” August asked.

Hearing this, the Chief Commissioner nodded slowly.

Indeed, handling [Dynamax] wild Pokémon would consume a considerable amount of time, putting the Kanto branch at a clear disadvantage during the Championship.

After all… the Kanto Branch was just the Kanto Branch. [Dynamax] outbreaks were fundamentally Galar’s own issue. Though Galar had requested assistance, Kanto had every right to refuse.

“But since I'm such a kind-hearted person, I can't stand seeing Galar's citizens suffer…” August began slowly.

“What do you mean?”

“Tell the League Council to count defeating [Dynamax Pokémon] towards our World Championship rankings,” August said. “Taking down [Dynamax Pokémon] can raise our ranks. Surely the Council wouldn’t say no to this kind of win-win solution?”

The Chief Commissioner pondered briefly before nodding.

August’s proposal was indeed feasible. After all, the International Police couldn’t shoulder Galar’s troubles forever!

Chief Commissioner: “Alright. I'll convince the Council.”

After exchanging a few more words, August hung up.

“What happened?” Gary Oak leaned closer.

Judging by what he’d overheard, they had a new mission?

“Yeah, defeating [Dynamax] wild Pokémon... I've suggested counting it toward World Championship rankings. If all goes well—congrats, Giovanni, you won’t have to deal with your housewife fans anymore,” August shot Giovanni a teasing look.

Giovanni: “......”

You really didn’t have to emphasize "housewife fans."

Soon, August received confirmation from the Chief Commissioner that the matter was settled.

Due to the urgency, his phone quickly lit up again with an official League notification:

—[Temporary Amendments to Galar World Championship Rules]

A quick glance showed the rules matched exactly what August had suggested—defeating [Gigantamax Pokémon] across Galar, recorded by a Rotom referee, would grant ranking points.

However, only Trainers ranked Great Ball tier and above were eligible.

Alongside the notification was a webpage link. Clicking on it, August saw a constantly updating map pinpointing areas with recent [Gigantamax] sightings.

There were many—mostly in the wild, with a few appearing in urban areas.

Seeing this, Gary Oak eagerly rubbed his hands together.

He couldn’t wait to boost his ranking.

Meanwhile, Cyrus and the others, already impatient from wasting time battling novice Trainers, began selecting their targets.

...

Turffield.

A [Gigantamax Appletun] rampaged through a forest near Turffield’s outskirts. Trees toppled in its wake, and sticky nectar completely blocked the roads. Trainers and residents alike were helpless.

Then, someone emerged from the crowd.

“Camerupt! Use [Eruption]!”

As Maxie’s voice fell, Camerupt’s volcanic humps erupted violently.

With billowing smoke and magma rocketing skyward, molten rocks rained down onto Appletun, causing it visible pain.

Seeing Appletun utterly helpless under Camerupt’s attack, Maxie’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. “This Appletun’s points… I’ll be taking them!”

...

Ballonlea.

Deep within Glimwood Tangle, Ballonlea had always been a dreamy town.

Despite the presence of Opal—the Gym Leader and famed “Magician”—the town hadn’t escaped the recent [Dynamax] chaos.

As Opal went to chase after a [Gigantamax Passimian], Ballonlea suddenly fell victim to an attacking [Gigantamax Grimmsnarl].

“Not good!”

“Hurry and contact Lady Opal!”

Panicked residents watched Grimmsnarl wreak havoc, turning their fairy-tale town into near ruins.

At that moment…

“A meaningless conflict,” a cold voice echoed, and a figure stepped forward.

Silver hair, a face devoid of any visible emotion—he instantly drew everyone’s gaze, including Grimmsnarl’s.

Furious at being obstructed, the enraged Grimmsnarl raised a massive hand to crush the human who dared interfere.

But before its strike landed, a Magnezone swiftly floated in front of Cyrus.

Cyrus stared unflinchingly at Grimmsnarl. “Utterly foolish…”

As Cyrus spoke, the ground rippled and countless metallic magnetic bombs floated up around Magnezone. They coalesced into a surging torrent, rushing fiercely toward Grimmsnarl.

Boom-boom-boom-BOOM!

After a heart-pounding series of explosions—

[Gigantamax Grimmsnarl] vanished. In its place lay a weakened Grimmsnarl, returned to normal size, unconscious.

...

Hulbury Harbor.

Sharpedo sank its teeth into a [Gigantamax Cursola] under Archie’s calm orders.

It was rather coincidental—Archie had originally set his sights on a [Gigantamax Sandaconda]. However, just as he was about to leave Hulbury, this Cursola suddenly [Gigantamaxed].

Without hesitation, Archie changed targets immediately.

Under Sharpedo’s [Crunch], Cursola’s face twisted in pain. Shaking Sharpedo off desperately, it attempted a [Max Phantasm] in retaliation.

Sharpedo simply vanished beneath the waves, evading easily. Then, finding Cursola’s blind spot, it unleashed a critical [Night Slash] from below.

Sharpedo rammed violently into Cursola’s body.

BOOM!

Cursola was sent sprawling, quickly shrinking back to its original form.

—[Gigantamax Cursola defeated. Battle video uploaded.]
—[Points awarded.]
—[Congratulations, your ranking has improved!]

...

Stow-on-Side.

A snow-white Galarian Darmanitan appeared in Stow-on-Side.

Unlike the normal Fire-type Darmanitan, Galarian Darmanitan’s internal flame sac had degenerated, making it an Ice-type Pokémon.

But now, having lost its sanity, the Darmanitan's mind was engulfed in rage, entering its Zen Mode, causing its degenerated flame sac to reignite once more.

Flames erupted from atop its head, melting the snowball-like body with blazing heat, forcing back every Trainer who tried to approach.

“We can’t stop it!”

“Is Leon not here yet?”

“Can anyone help us?!”

Silver and Pryce stood among the watching crowd.

Silver glanced questioningly at Pryce.

Pryce nodded slightly, then calmly wheeled himself forward out of the crowd.

The people stared blankly as an old man in a wheelchair, accompanied only by a single Delibird, emerged to face the rampaging Pokémon.

No matter how you looked at it, this combination seemed destined to die.

Just as they were about to step forward to stop them, Pryce gently tapped his cane on the ground.

Boom!

The very next moment, the [Gigantamaxed, Zen Mode Darmanitan] before him—along with the flames surging from its head—froze instantly into solid ice.

The crowd stared in stunned silence for a beat before erupting into joyous cheers. Meanwhile, Pryce calmly turned, disappearing silently with Silver into the crowd, hiding their deeds and names deep within.

Leon, who’d just arrived in a hurry after dealing with another [Dynamax Pokémon], froze at the sight before him.

Especially upon seeing the ice mountain-sized Darmanitan in the distance, his mind briefly went blank...

“Such strength!”

Leon questioned himself inwardly, knowing he absolutely could not achieve anything close to this.

By the time he snapped back to reality, Pryce was already gone.

“Pryce, huh…”

Leon had a gut feeling—this Pryce would become his fiercest rival on the path to the championship!

...

Underground Power Plant, Stow-on-Side.

With his request for assistance officially submitted to the League Council, Rose felt completely unrestrained. The awakening of Eternatus, previously slowed down due to fears of triggering widespread [Dynamax] outbreaks, now returned to its original rapid pace.

In Rose’s mind, the chaos from large-scale [Dynamax] incidents was more than enough to keep August distracted until the World Championships officially began in Hammerlocke.

Then, during the opening ceremony, he’d awaken Eternatus right there on the championship stage.

At that moment, he’d finally solve Galar’s thousand-year energy crisis and become the region’s hero in one swift stroke!

Just as Rose was lost in delightful fantasies about the future…

“Chairman, something’s not right…” An anxious subordinate rushed up to Rose to report, his face clearly panicked.

Annoyed at being interrupted during his pleasant thoughts, Rose frowned.

“What happened?”

The subordinate swallowed nervously and reported, “We’ve received reports of a massive increase in [Dynamax] anomalies everywhere...”

Rose looked puzzled. “Isn't that perfectly normal?”

He had increased the speed of Eternatus’s revival, so naturally, wild Pokémon going berserk and [Dynamaxing] would spike accordingly.

“But…the speed at which these [Dynamax] incidents are disappearing has also drastically increased! The number of [Dynamax] anomalies everywhere has dropped dramatically…” the subordinate explained hesitantly.

Rose’s brows immediately tightened. He snatched the tablet from his subordinate’s hands.

Only a few scattered red dots remained on the map, each representing a [Dynamax] anomaly.

Even fewer than before.

As Rose watched, a new red dot appeared very close to his location—just outside Stow-on-Side—indicating a new [Dynamax] Pokémon had emerged.

But before Rose could even feel pleased, he watched helplessly as the red dot disappeared in less than a minute.

Rose: “?”

Less than a minute from emergence to defeat?

Had Leon intervened?

But surely Galar didn’t have multiple Leons scattered everywhere…

What in the world was happening out there?!

Just as Rose puzzled hopelessly…

...

Stow-on-Side outskirts.

Giovanni’s Beedrill slowly withdrew its stingers. On the ground before them lay an Obstagoon, now returned to its normal size and completely unconscious.

—[Congratulations! Your rank has increased!]
—[You have successfully advanced to Ultra Ball tier, Rank 99.]

Giovanni showed no emotion upon reaching Ultra Ball tier, as this achievement posed no difficulty to him at all.

Frankly, it would’ve been abnormal if he hadn’t made Ultra Ball tier.

But the good news for Giovanni was that, from now on, he could avoid those irritating low-ranked Trainers, even if he didn't bother with these [Dynamax Pokémon] any further.

Standing beside Giovanni, August took out his phone and glanced at the screen. “Looks like all nearby [Dynamax Pokémon] have been handled.”

It hadn’t even been that long.

August himself felt impressed by their Kanto branch’s sheer efficiency.

“Rose, I gave you a chance, but you’re just too useless!” August shook his head, sighing emotionally.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t given Rose an opportunity—he had. But Rose couldn’t seize it; now, that wasn’t his problem.

“Honestly, who could even stand against our current lineup?” Gary Oak remarked from the side, unable to resist the jab.

Pardon his limited imagination, but he really couldn’t envision anyone capable of challenging the Kanto branch as they were now.
