Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [520]
Added 2025-07-25 11:46:05 +0000 UTCContrary to expectations, when August and Giovanni walked through Opelucid City’s streets, they didn't sense any tension at all.
Pedestrians strolled leisurely along. Machokes could be seen helping trainers move cargo, sanitation workers swept the streets followed by hungry Trubbish nibbling on stray trash, and Pelipper carrying mail parcels soared gracefully overhead.
When they reached Opelucid’s Battle Subway entrance, they found Officer Jenny already on-site, overseeing a blockade with several police officers.
“I'm sorry, but the Battle Subway is currently—” Jenny instinctively began blocking their path before recognizing August. Surprised, she quickly corrected herself, “Ah! You’re Mr. August, aren't you?”
Even though Jenny recognized him, August still showed his ID out of professionalism. “I’m here investigating Team Plasma’s movements.”
Jenny immediately waved for her officers to clear the way. As the officer in charge, she knew August had been on the train that narrowly avoided collision due to sabotage.
Still, she was shocked at how quickly he had arrived.
“The control center is this way,” Jenny explained, leading August forward. “After receiving intel from Driftveil City, we quickly dispatched a team to secure the Battle Subway and its control center, but by the time we arrived, the staff had already been knocked unconscious, and the equipment destroyed.”
August looked in the direction she indicated. Inside the control room, several shaken employees were being interviewed by the police. Around them lay scattered and severed data cables, along with equipment smashed clearly by Pokémon moves such as Brick Break.
With the control center in ruins, the entire subway system in Opelucid had ground to a halt.
Giovanni looked around, his lips quirking slightly. “Seems you've been played. Team Plasma’s already gone.”
Only upon hearing that did Officer Jenny finally notice Giovanni standing behind August. Her eyes widened, and it took her a full moment to recognize the infamous Team Rocket boss who’d vanished after his capture.
“Gi-Giovanni?!”
She reacted like a fresh recruit straight from the academy—shocked, wary, and nervous.
August didn’t immediately explain. Instead, he approached the damaged equipment, running his fingers over the torn metal casing and picking up a pinch of metallic residue.
“A Steel-type Pokémon did this,” August stated calmly. “Considering Team Plasma’s usual Pokémon, it must have been a Pawniard.”
“Why Pawniard, not Bisharp or Kingambit?” asked one officer curiously.
Rather than impatience, August patiently explained:
“It’s about the angle and depth of the cuts.”
“Pawniard and Bisharp differ significantly in height and strength.” He gestured at the ruined console. “At this height, a Bisharp’s strike would’ve been smoother and more precise. These irregular, uneven gashes indicate a smaller Pokémon had to leap, causing unstable force—exactly what you'd expect from Pawniard.”
The officers all exchanged amazed looks. August turned back to Jenny. “There weren’t many Plasma members involved here. No need to keep so many officers tied up; let them return to their usual duties.”
Completely impressed, Jenny quickly nodded in agreement.
Giovanni merely scoffed silently at August’s self-assured display.
At that moment, more noise erupted near the entrance. August and Giovanni turned in unison.
An elderly gentleman accompanied by a lively young girl entered the room. The older man was impeccably dressed, white-haired, calm, and dignified, while the girl had vibrant dark skin and bouncing purple hair, energetically skipping beside him.
“Drayden… and Iris?”
“Hey! You're August!” Iris immediately recognized him, exclaiming with excitement. But when her gaze landed on Giovanni, her excitement abruptly turned to shock. She squeaked in fright and ducked behind Drayden. “Gi-Giovanni?!”
Iris, whose hometown was Blackthorn City in Johto, had grown up hearing terrifying stories of Team Rocket from village elders. Seeing Giovanni in person was utterly startling.
August suddenly felt that bringing Giovanni along had been a huge mistake—he’d have to keep explaining at every turn.
After briefly summarizing Giovanni’s current status, Iris peeked out cautiously from behind Drayden, her eyes wide with surprise. “Really? Giovanni of Team Rocket has actually turned good?”
Drayden regarded Giovanni warily. “I see ambition in his eyes. Be careful, Iris.”
“Got it, Grandpa Drayden!” Iris quickly replied, reassured not by Giovanni but by August. She’d heard plenty about August’s heroic feats in her home region, Johto.
“You’re here about Team Plasma, aren’t you?” Iris approached August, gently stroking Dragonite’s belly. “Wow, your Dragonite is beautiful!”
August stared blankly as Iris boldly petted Dragonite, making it giggle and wriggle playfully.
You can call Dragonite cute, strong, or even majestic—but beautiful...?
Despite August’s mild confusion, Dragonite clearly loved Iris’s compliment, happily squinting its eyes into crescent moons.
Watching Iris and Dragonite get along perfectly, Drayden, as Opelucid’s Gym Leader, turned back to business. Having heard of August’s arrival through Caitlin, Drayden addressed Officer Jenny directly: “What’s the situation here?”
Jenny glanced respectfully at August before repeating his deductions, finishing with: “That’s what Mr. August concluded.”
Drayden gave August an approving glance. Considering August’s expertise, it no longer surprised him.
“August, what's your next step?” Drayden asked seriously. While normally he’d take charge of Opelucid’s security himself, after witnessing August’s strength firsthand at the Pokémon World Tournament, he readily deferred command.
August swiftly unclipped a Poké Ball from his waist, releasing Deoxys.
Deoxys immediately awaited instructions.
August pointed at the damaged equipment. “Can you track down Team Plasma by sensing the residual energy?”
Given Deoxys’s past ability to track Silver based solely on a decade-old handkerchief, tracing the attackers now shouldn't be difficult.
Deoxys silently placed its tendrils on the damaged equipment, closing its eyes momentarily. After mere seconds, it opened them sharply, marking a location on the city map.
With their destination pinpointed, August turned to Iris, surprised to find she'd already befriended Dragonite completely. In fact, Dragonite had just rummaged through its scales and handed Iris a gleaming [Dragon Scale].
“A gift for me?” Iris gasped in delight, carefully pocketing it.
August couldn’t help wondering where Dragonite had even found that scale. He sighed playfully, “Dragonite, you're not being honest…”
Dragonite responded with a pitiful whimper. “Woo…”
...
Inside a hidden building in Opelucid City.
The Team Plasma members responsible for sabotaging the subway’s control center were holed up nervously.
“Captain, are we really safe hiding here?” one grunt whispered anxiously.
Their leader replied confidently, “Absolutely. This is a secret hideout Team Plasma paid heavily for. It’s perfectly concealed—normal people couldn’t even find the entrance.”
Yet this assurance didn’t reassure his team at all. Everyone there knew exactly who their opponent was—August himself!
The man who’d captured two of the Seven Sages immediately upon arriving in Unova, and whose mere presence drove Lord Ghetsis into fits of helpless rage.
Just thinking about August terrified them, leaving their supposedly secure hideout feeling utterly exposed.
Seeing their frightened expressions, the squad leader stiffened with irritation. Though his own legs trembled slightly, he forced a confident tone: “Enough whining. Even if August does come, we still have Lord Ghetsis’s trump card!”
That got their attention—though oddly, their gazes seemed directed behind him…
Before he could turn, a chilling voice sounded softly from behind:
“Oh? What trump card would that be? I'd love to hear more.”
A cold sweat ran instantly down his back. Slowly, rigidly turning his head, he saw a figure casually seated on the couch, accompanied by a strange, red-and-blue Pokémon.
“A-August…!” the captain stammered, voice caught in his throat.
Ignoring their shocked expressions, August calmly stood and opened the hideout’s door. Under everyone's dumbfounded gaze—
First entered white-haired Drayden, Gym Leader of Opelucid City; followed by Giovanni wearing a faint, amused smile; then Iris, eagerly peeking inside; and finally, Dragonite awkwardly squeezing through the doorway.
They’d been completely surrounded!
How? When did this happen? How had August found them so fast?!
Countless questions filled the Plasma grunts’ minds, yet reality stared them coldly in the face.
August casually sat back on the couch, addressing them calmly: “Alright, speak up. Who masterminded the subway sabotage?”
All the Plasma members froze, silent in terror.
“No answer, huh?” August continued lightly. “Then you’ll all share charges: Endangering public safety, orchestrating terrorist acts, plotting against Pokémon League personnel…”
Each charge made the criminals’ scalps tingle in fear. If convicted of all these crimes, they’d surely spend the rest of their lives in prison!
Their so-called dedication to environmentalism crumbled instantly. Faced with a lifetime behind bars, the Plasma grunts panicked, immediately spilling everything they knew.
Of course, Ghetsis was behind it all. Yet another crime to his name.
As for Ghetsis’s supposed “trump card,” August stared speechlessly at the pile of Snag Balls they’d pulled out.
Did no one bother informing them Snag Balls were useless against his Pokémon? Ah, right—all Plasma members who’d learned that lesson trying to catch Rayquaza had been shipped off to Johto’s prisons…
After noting down their full confessions, August snapped the notebook shut and turned to Giovanni.
“Contact Officer Jenny. Have her take them away.”
Giovanni: “?”
Since when had he become August’s secretary?
August smiled meaningfully. “If you’re unwilling, plenty of others would jump at the chance. Maxie and Archie, for instance.”
Giovanni glared bitterly at August. One day, I'll repay this humiliation.
But for now, his freedom came first. Reluctantly, he dialed Jenny’s number.
Meanwhile, August was casually chatting with Gary and Caitlin. They’d successfully repelled their own attackers and reached their targets without issue—though Gary had faced the worst of it, arriving in Relic Castle to find himself surrounded by Plasma grunts.
[Call_Me_Young_Master_Gary]: This Young Master is just too amazing!
