Guided by Kyogre, August’s group advanced steadily through the sea.
Around them, schools of Finneon rose gracefully from the depths to the shallows, shimmering tails gently swaying behind them as they absorbed the sunlight, forming an enchanting display.
The Finneon carefully avoided Kyogre but curiously approached Baby Lugia instead, swimming around the group without any fear.
“So pretty!” Lillie exclaimed in awe.
As the school of fish passed by, Lillie reached out her hand gently, and a single Finneon brushed delicately against her fingertips, tracing a graceful arc through the water.
The Finneon school then surged upward toward the surface, their tails rhythmically propelling them forward. Lillie watched expectantly, her eyes bright—
—and then froze, stunned, as a Wingull suddenly dove from the sky, swiftly snatching up the very Finneon she had touched and vanishing from view.
Lillie’s delighted expression immediately fell. Her outstretched hand lingered in midair, then slowly dropped limply by her side.
“Why…why did it end like that?” she murmured softly, crestfallen.
August observed her quietly, shaking his head sympathetically without comment.
Maybe this is just part of growing up...
…
Aside from the Finneon, there were even more Magikarp swimming nearby—dumb-looking Pokémon with wide, vacant eyes and flat noses, all identical in their blank expressions.
The Magikarp were completely unafraid of either Kyogre or Lugia, curiously circling the group. But their lazy swim was abruptly interrupted by resonant, echoing cries from the deep.
A massive pod of Wailord surged past, enormous bodies scattering the hapless Magikarp in all directions.
Mew, however, showed no fear at all, enthusiastically waving at the passing Wailord pod. Her gesture nearly prompted one curious Wailord to drift dangerously close, giving everyone a fright.
August quickly grabbed Mew and stuffed her firmly into his jacket.
But Sabrina’s focus wasn’t on the Wailord.
[PsychicPrettyGirl]: August, did you sense that?
[GardevoirSupremacy]: Sense what?
[PsychicPrettyGirl]: Don’t tell me you haven’t felt that something’s following us from behind...
Sabrina glanced cautiously backward. Though the ocean depths were shadowy, her psychic powers allowed her vision as clear as day.
At her words, the rest of the group nervously turned around—but saw nothing behind them.
[Platinum]: Is something really following us? We’re deep underwater...
The thought of something lurking in the deep pursuing them made Platinum shiver slightly. She held Manaphy tighter, clearly uneasy.
Cynthia’s hand closed cautiously around a Poké Ball.
But just as Cynthia was about to send out Milotic to investigate, Kyogre suddenly came to a halt.
Looking past Kyogre into the gloomy depths, everyone immediately saw the faint outline of an enormous, top-shaped structure enclosed within a shimmering purple barrier.
The gigantic construction instantly captivated their attention.
It’s huge! Awe filled everyone’s eyes.
Even after witnessing the strength of legendary Pokémon firsthand, seeing an artificial structure of this scale hidden deep underwater was astounding in an entirely different way.
So this is the power of an ancient civilization...?
“Mana!” Manaphy wriggled excitedly in Platinum’s arms, eager to move toward the Sea Temple.
Understanding Manaphy’s urgency, Platinum glanced questioningly at August. He nodded and signaled Kyogre to hide, then gently tapped Lugia beneath him.
Baby Lugia acknowledged the command, swiftly diving toward the massive orb. Only after entering the protective sphere did Lugia transition smoothly from swimming to flight mode, gently bringing the group to land.
Stepping inside the Sea Temple and experiencing its vastness up close, Blue couldn’t help exclaim, “Unbelievable…to think such an immense building could exist underwater!”
Cynthia nodded in agreement. “I've studied numerous ancient ruins, but this is the first structure I've encountered that’s so massive yet perfectly preserved…”
In fact, calling it "well-preserved" seemed inadequate—the temple looked practically brand-new, as though people still lived here today. This discovery would shake the archaeological community, rivaling even August’s Hisui research alongside Professors Oak and Birch.
August raised an eyebrow teasingly. “Think we'll run into some ancient people down here? Or maybe ghosts?”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than he felt someone clutch his arm tightly.
To his surprise, the one grabbing his arm wasn’t Platinum or Lillie. Those two were already occupied—Platinum gripping Manaphy and Lillie clinging nervously to Blue.
Instead, the culprit was… Sabrina?!
“Don’t tell me you’re afraid of ghosts, Sabrina-san?” August teased mercilessly.
Sabrina stiffened for a second, quickly recovering her composure and replying dryly, “Heh heh.”
As if I’d be scared of ghosts!
I used to listen to ghost stories to help me fall asleep when I was three years old!
August chuckled. “Before you ‘heh heh’ me, could you let go of my arm?”
Sabrina: “...”
Her face flushed with embarrassment, Sabrina reluctantly released him as August cheerfully called out, “Come on, let's explore!”
They hadn’t traveled all this way just to linger by the entrance.
Once inside the temple, Manaphy cheered joyfully, clearly feeling right at home. Seeing Manaphy so happy, Platinum couldn’t help but smile warmly.
But just as the group began moving deeper into the temple—
Outside, visible through the protective barrier, a submarine appeared, swiftly approaching from the direction they’d just come from. Clearly, its intentions were not friendly.
Everyone immediately turned to August and Sabrina.
“Sabrina-san, is this what you sensed following us earlier?” Lillie asked anxiously.
Sabrina nodded firmly, turning toward August. “What should we do now? They don’t seem like good guys.”
Good people wouldn’t secretly tail us underwater. Plus, if she wasn’t mistaken, the submarine appeared equipped with weapons.
“How can you assume they’re bad guys without evidence?” August said mockingly. “Maybe they’re ocean conservationists who just happened to spot Baby Lugia and want to take a friendly picture?”
Sabrina stared at him, speechless. “…If they’re good people, why are you pulling out your Poké Ball?”
The submarine passed effortlessly through the barrier, rising rapidly toward the temple’s shore.
August grinned knowingly. “Because I can already smell the stink of Pokémon hunters from here!”
Almost immediately, the submarine’s hatch opened, and a large group of Pokémon hunters spilled out.
“Fresh air at last!”
“Who knew there was such a place underwater!”
“What an amazing location! Let’s set up our new base here—we'll make a fortune catching water-type Pokémon!”
Even as they dreamed big, the hunters hadn’t forgotten August’s group standing nearby.
A young grunt stepped forward, boldly addressing them: “Hey! This is our territory now! Hand over your Pokémon and get out of here, or don’t blame us for getting rough!”
As a fresh recruit from the Orre region, he was eager to impress his boss and teammates.
However…
August stared at him with amused disbelief. Cynthia and the others also gave the hunters strange looks.
“You’re threatening us?” August laughed incredulously. He’d never encountered Pokémon hunters brave—or stupid—enough to act this cocky in front of him.
Finally seeing August’s group clearly, the young grunt turned uncertainly toward his boss. “Boss, why do they look familiar? Do you recognize these people?”
But the leader was already trembling visibly.
“Boss, I know finding this place is exciting, but shouldn’t we deal with these guys first?” the grunt asked, scratching his head in confusion.
The leader, however, was nearly hysterical with panic.
“Retreat—everyone, retreat NOW!”
The rookie from Orre might not know who these people are, but as a veteran hunter, he certainly did!
Forget August, the notorious "Demon Ranger," whose mere name terrified every Pokémon hunter alive—just Cynthia alone was enough reason to run!
And now, both stood before him. How incredibly unlucky could he get?
All he wanted was to catch a few Pokémon! the leader wailed silently, scrambling back into the submarine and hastily abandoning his confused rookie, attempting to flee immediately.
August stood calmly in place.
Cynthia was prepared to intervene, but seeing August’s confident smirk, she held back.
Just as the submarine started pulling away, the hunters already sighing in relief—
August casually raised his hand and gestured.
BOOM!
Outside the barrier, Kyogre—still dragging Groudon behind it—slammed headlong into the submarine, sending it rocketing straight back onto shore faster than it had fled.
CRASH!
The submarine hit the water surface spectacularly, sending a massive splash skyward.
“Too big of a splash—poor form. Zero points,” August critiqued loudly.
Blue and the others twitched their lips. Only August would rate the "diving posture" of a fleeing submarine…
The abandoned rookie stood frozen, utterly dumbfounded. Gazing from Kyogre and Groudon outside to the crumpled submarine, he wasn’t sure whether he should be thankful he hadn’t boarded it, or terrified by his earlier bravado.
August ignored such a small fry. Nodding toward Sabrina, she promptly unleashed Psychic power to pry open the submarine’s mangled hatch, dragging out the battered and moaning Pokémon hunters, tying them neatly together.
“Darkrai, watch them closely,” August commanded briefly, then turned back to the group. “Let’s keep moving.”
Under Manaphy’s enthusiastic guidance, they soon reached a chamber adorned with elaborate murals.
“The path ends here,” Lillie observed worriedly.
August examined the room carefully. If he recalled correctly, activating the path to the temple’s core required a bracelet or necklace belonging to the ancient People of the Water.
But he was neither from that tribe nor did he possess their artifacts…
Not that it mattered!
August turned toward Cogita with a bright smile. “Please lend a hand, oh mighty Dora-Cogita!”
Cogita gave him a helpless look.
August preferred bothering her to testing his luck with those mystery rewards. Was she really that terrifying?
Mentally sighing, Cogita nevertheless stepped forward under everyone’s expectant gaze. Raising her hand gracefully, a gentle flash of light instantly opened the hidden door protecting the Sea Crown, revealing the passage beyond.
Amazing!
Lillie and Platinum exchanged astonished looks. They hadn’t expected the quiet, elegant Cogita to effortlessly unseal the path.
Suddenly curious about Cogita’s true identity, they wisely decided now wasn’t the time for such questions.
Moving swiftly through the revealed passage, the group arrived at an immense chamber nearly a hundred meters tall, with countless crystal rods quietly resting in sockets at its center, glittering beautifully in flowing water.
Returning here, Manaphy joyfully leaped into the currents, swimming happily.
“How beautiful!” Platinum gasped, marveling at the shimmering crystals.
“Mew!” Mew hovered eagerly around the Sea Crown, eyeing a crystal rod, hoping to sneak one as a souvenir—only to be vigilantly blocked by Manaphy at every attempt.
“Should we take one as a keepsake?” August teased playfully.
Mew nodded vigorously, while Manaphy instantly shot August a wary glare. “Mana!”
“Just kidding!” August laughed. “I know removing these would damage the temple—I have no interest in destruction.”
His friends stared doubtfully. Cynthia vividly recalled August obliterating Spear Pillar with Rayquaza’s [Draco Meteor], leaving no trace of the ancient structure behind. Blue and Sabrina had even seen him inadvertently reshape entire ruins.
“What’s with those suspicious looks?” August protested. They clearly misunderstood!
Before he could explain, Cogita stepped toward the Sea Crown. She lightly touched one crystal rod—and suddenly the entire temple erupted into dazzling golden light, trembling beneath their feet…
