Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [478]

Struggling to his feet after Lickitung’s powerful [Slam], Quilava shakily rose once more.

But Lickitung swung its tongue mercilessly, knocking Quilava down again.

He rose again and again, only to be knocked down repeatedly, yet Quilava’s determination moved everyone watching.

“Quilava!”

Ash reached for his Poké Ball, wanting to recall Quilava, but paused upon seeing his Pokémon’s unwavering gaze.

Quilava wasn’t ready to give up!

Ash’s grip tightened. Inspired by Quilava’s spirit, his own expression hardened in resolve.

If Quilava wouldn’t give up, neither would he!

“Let's go, Quilava!”

“Quil!”

Quilava charged forward, flames blazing intensely from his head and back.

Lickitung prepared another [Slam] attack, swinging its massive tongue toward Quilava.

But this time, Quilava adjusted his fighting style.

Crouching low, Quilava sprinted forward agilely on all fours, weaving past Lickitung’s rapid tongue strikes with incredible precision.

Diamond was visibly stunned by this unexpected tactic. In that brief hesitation, Quilava closed the distance rapidly.

“Lickitung, [Power Whip]!”

Lickitung quickly retracted its tongue like a coiled spring, then snapped it forward at point-blank range toward Quilava.

“At such a close distance, Quilava is in serious danger!” the commentator cried.

Spectators rooting for Ash collectively held their breath, anxious to see how Ash would respond.

But Ash reverted to his classic strategy—trusting his Pokémon completely:

“You’ve got this, Quilava!”

Gary winced visibly upon hearing Ash’s vague command.

All those training sessions for nothing… Ash, did you even listen to me at all?

But August had a different perspective.

“Ash made the right call,” August commented calmly.

“Huh?” Gary looked bewildered.

Before he could question further, the scene on the battlefield changed dramatically.

Quilava abandoned all attempts to dodge and instead charged head-on into Lickitung’s attack. Flames surged powerfully as he collided deliberately with the incoming tongue, igniting it instantly.

BANG!

Quilava was knocked flying, tumbling across the arena.

But he had accomplished his goal.

“Lickitung!” Diamond shouted anxiously.

Lickitung’s eyes filled with tears as it held its scorched tongue, clearly marked by Quilava’s desperate attack.

Realizing he couldn’t defeat Lickitung outright, Quilava had used his last bit of strength to inflict a burn, dramatically weakening his opponent.

From this perspective, Quilava had succeeded perfectly.

With its tongue badly burned, Lickitung’s combat power dropped significantly.

Diamond scratched his head, impressed. “That’s Ash-senpai for you—the friend of Gary-oniisan, who's the Boss’ sworn brother!”

He wasn't exactly surprised, though—this was Ash-senpai, after all.

“You did amazing, Quilava. Rest up,” Ash said warmly, recalling Quilava. His eyes met Diamond’s, fierce determination blazing within.

As the tension mounted, the commentator hyped up the crowd once more: “What Pokémon will Ash send out next?”

“Go, Pikachu!”

Ash dramatically waved his arm.

Pikachu leaped energetically into the arena, sparks crackling from his cheeks, which had endured their fair share of playful pinches from August.

Unexpectedly, after seeing Pikachu, Diamond also scratched his head and decided to switch Pokémon.

“It's up to you, Snor!”

A Munchlax appeared lazily on the battlefield and immediately started rummaging around, producing a berry from somewhere and casually stuffing it into its mouth.

“This is a battle, Snor!”

Munchlax blinked slowly, appearing confused about the meaning of "battle."

Pikachu, however, was already fully prepared.

At the referee's command, Pikachu transformed into a streak of golden lightning, rushing straight toward Munchlax.

“Amazing [Quick Attack]! Pikachu’s speed is incredible—I can barely see its movements clearly!” shouted the commentator.

From his seat, August quietly assessed Pikachu’s performance, mentally estimating how much effort Pikachu was actually putting into this battle.

As Pikachu rapidly approached, Munchlax continued staring blankly.

Only when Pikachu was nearly upon it did Munchlax seem to realize Pikachu was an opponent. It casually tossed the berry core from its hand.

Thunk!

The hard core struck Pikachu squarely in the forehead, sending him tumbling off balance. He skidded forward, coming to a halt right at Munchlax’s feet.

Bathed in sunlight, Pikachu found himself directly under Munchlax’s shadow, making him suddenly tense up.

Just as Pikachu prepared to strike back, Munchlax unexpectedly pulled out another berry from behind its back and offered it directly to Pikachu.

“Pika?” Pikachu froze in confusion.

It wasn’t just Pikachu—everyone, including the referee, commentator, and entire audience, was momentarily stunned.

If they recalled correctly, each Pokémon could only use one held item or berry per match…

And Munchlax had already produced two berries…

All eyes turned toward the referee, who suddenly felt tremendous pressure. In his twenty years officiating matches, he'd never encountered a semifinals violation quite like this.

He quickly raised his flag: “Munchlax has used two berries, violating League rules! Munchlax is disqualified from this round!”

Diamond scratched his head innocently. “Snacks count as held items?”

“Of course they do, you idiot!!” Pearl’s frustrated shout echoed from the sidelines. He sighed helplessly, resigning himself to Diamond’s unique style.

Although Ash technically won this round, even he couldn't celebrate. It just felt too bizarre!

But regardless, the battle continued.

Following Torterra, Lickitung, and now Munchlax’s defeats, the remaining Pokémon fought fiercely:

“Magcargo is unable to battle—Ash wins this round!”

“Pikachu is unable to battle—Diamond wins this round!”

“Dugtrio is unable to battle—Ash wins this round!”

“Noctowl is unable to battle—Diamond wins this round!”

“Lickitung is unable to battle—Ash wins again!”

After five rounds, Diamond had only one Pokémon left able to fight.

Meanwhile, Ash still had his strongest—Bayleef—and one other Pokémon available…

“I’ll win this, Ash-senpai!” Diamond declared firmly.

Under Ash’s focused gaze, Diamond gripped the last Poké Ball at his waist.
