“Hurry up, I can’t hold on much longer!”
Crepus’s shout snapped Diluc out of his daze.
He shook his head, forcing himself to stop wondering where Crepus was getting this sudden surge of strength. Raising his greatsword, he brought it down with all his might.
But just as his blade was about to cleave into the man in black, a wall of solid rock erupted from the ground, shielding the target within.
The greatsword crashed down on the stone wall with a heavy, echoing impact.
The force of the rebound sent Diluc staggering back several meters.
“What… is this?”
It wasn’t just Crepus—Diluc was stunned too.
Two elements?!
The man in black had just been wielding Electro, but now, he’d unleashed Geo as well.
Seeing such an impossible thing unfold before their eyes, both men froze for a moment.
Especially Crepus.
He’d tried so many times, pushed himself to the limit just to join the Knights of Favonius.
But the gods never acknowledged him.
He couldn’t accept it!
To gain the power he’d dreamed of, he’d paid a steep price for a [Delusion]—a “fake [Vision]” with dangerous side effects. Every use brought searing pain in exchange for a taste of that power.
And what was he seeing now?
The very person here to steal his [Delusion]… was wielding two elements like it was nothing.
In other words, this thief—he actually had two [Visions].
“This! Is! Not! Fair!”
Crepus roared in fury.
“Hehe—”
“The world isn’t fair, Crepus!”
The man in black only chuckled, letting Geo swirl around him until he was wrapped head to toe in a sheath of stone.
With a flex, the chains binding him snapped apart, each link shattering with a crisp metallic sound.
“Father!”
Seeing him break free, Diluc rushed forward again, greatsword in hand.
But the man in black barely even looked his way. With a casual flick of his wrist, wall after wall of stone shot up, sealing Diluc’s path completely.
Furious and panicked, Diluc unleashed everything he had, hacking wildly at the stone.
But for every wall he shattered, two more sprang up in its place. For a moment, there was simply no way through.
Elsewhere, the man in black was controlling the walls with one hand, and wielding his sword with the other—chasing Crepus around with a barrage of attacks, taunting all the while.
“Master Crepus, borrowed power never works as well as your own, you know.”
Crepus gritted his teeth, both enraged and humiliated.
But without Diluc’s help, he could barely hold on for two or three exchanges—then the blade pierced him, leaving several bloody holes in his body. He collapsed in a pool of blood.
“I’m done playing. Die—!”
The man in black raised his sword, intent on finishing Crepus off.
Just then, a massive claymore coated in icy blue light came whirling in, riding a sharp gust of wind.
Even before the blade landed, frost had already spread through the air.
With the wind element amplifying it, the man in black found himself instantly covered in a layer of frost.
He had no choice but to break off from Crepus, slashing at the icy greatsword until it shattered, sending shards of frost flying everywhere.
In that moment of chaos, a flash of cold steel cut through the storm—Eula, her face fierce and determined, leapt forward to shield Crepus, engaging the man in black in a furious duel.
Behind her, Jean didn’t join the fight. Instead, she called upon Anemo, rushing to heal the gravely wounded Crepus.
“[Go to hell]!”
As Eula and the man in black clashed, a roar erupted from behind the wall of stone trapping Diluc.
A towering firebird, taller than a man, burst forth with a shrill cry. While the man in black was occupied with Eula and couldn’t raise more walls, the firebird smashed through the barriers in a blazing storm.
Wherever the firebird passed, fire ignited instantly.
With spilled wine soaking the floor, the flames spread quickly throughout the wine cellar.
The man in black’s pupils narrowed.
At the same time, Eula’s [Mark of Unforgiving Frost] was charging up—ice in one hand, firebird in the other. He knew instantly: facing both at once would be suicide.
He made a split-second decision, abandoning all Geo defenses. He conjured a diamond-shaped Electro wedge, hurled it at a safe spot, and in the blink of an eye, his form blurred—he appeared where the Electro wedge landed, as if he’d teleported.
The moment he vanished, the icy claymore and firebird collided with a deafening crash.
Steam and scalding heat flooded the wine cellar—just standing there made it hard to breathe, every inch of skin burning with pain.
The chaos finally drew the attention of the Dawn Winery guards.
“Fire! There’s a fire! Help!”
“The wine cellar’s burning! Somebody, help!”
Seeing things going south, the man in black didn’t linger. He twisted away, transformed into a whirling gust, smashed through a wine cellar window, and vanished into the night.
“Three—three elements?!”
Eula and Diluc exchanged a look, shock and disbelief mirrored in their eyes.
Is it really possible for someone to possess three [Visions] at once?
“Don’t just stand there—Crepus is badly hurt! Help me get him to the Church!”
Jean, focused on healing Crepus, shouted at the others as she worked.
At her words, Diluc snapped back to himself, hurrying to check Crepus’s wounds.
But the moment he looked, his eyes went cold.
That strange, sinister glove…
It was gone!
---
Meanwhile, outside the burning cellar, the man in black used the moonlight to find his direction, preparing to slip away—when a calm, even voice sounded nearby.
“A person who can use multiple elements…”
“Hm. You’d make a fascinating research subject.”
The man in black’s whole body tensed. He turned to see a young man standing beneath a tree, his expression unreadable.
The youth had long, tawny-blonde hair, wore a hooded coat, and on his chest, a Geo Vision gleamed in the moonlight.
“Albedo.”
Hearing his name, Albedo’s eyes gleamed with interest. “Oh? You know me?”
“Hmph—”
The man in black didn’t answer, slowly edging backward.
Albedo. Apprentice of the Alchemist ‘Gold’, Rhinedottir. A homunculus, White Chalk Rank, stronger even than the dragon Durin who once ravaged Mondstadt five centuries ago. A master of life alchemy. If he went all out, he could wipe Mondstadt off the map.
Even Diluc and Eula combined wouldn’t stand a chance. The most dangerous part: Albedo didn’t know who he was, and wouldn’t hold back.
So—
Time to run!
But just as he moved, a chill flashed behind him.
The man in black reacted instantly, dodging aside as an icy spear stabbed toward his back.
There, also dressed in black, Rosaria charged in with her Favonius lance, her presence as cold as the night.
Cursing inwardly, the man in black turned and clashed with her.
She wasn’t really a threat, he thought. But with Albedo nearby, he had to split his focus, watching out for a sudden attack. And he couldn’t risk seriously injuring Rosaria.
Which meant—this battle was going nowhere fast.
It didn’t last long, though.
Because Albedo made his move.
And when he did, it was with a sweeping Geo attack.
“[Abiogenesis: Solar Isotoma]!”
With a light command, surging Geo erupted beneath the man in black’s feet.
Desperate, he could only summon a makeshift Geo shield.
But before it was fully formed, a crystalline platform shot up beneath him, smashing into the shield like a charging beast and obliterating it instantly.
The platform soared ten meters into the air, blooming into a strange, beautiful flower of shining Geo.
The man in black was sent flying, blood roiling in his chest—he had to choke back a mouthful of blood just to steady himself.
But Albedo wasn’t done.
He leapt onto another Geo platform, closing in as he swept his hand.
Around the [Solar Isotoma], seven more crystalline flowers exploded into being, swelling with dangerous, crackling energy.
At that perilous instant, as the man in black was about to fall into the blast zone, he suddenly laughed—and with a ‘whoosh,’ Anemo wings burst from his back.
Albedo’s expression changed instantly.
But the Geo flowers were already primed to explode.
In the roaring blast, the man in black powered through the explosion, riding the shockwave to vanish into the night.
Only a lingering shout echoed on the wind:
“Better luck next time!”
