Cat Stevens "Morning Has Broken" - Complete Guitar Lesson

Hello friends,

and welcome to another by request song tutorial! In today's session I'll be breaking down a unique way of performing Cat Stevens 1972 classic "Morning Has Broken." I'll show you how to adapt the classical style piano sections to fingerstyle guitar, and teach you the chord progressions and strumming patterns for the verse sections. Let's get started!

Hey John, my accent has become the topic of wide discussion... this is probably because I actively try to break habits that are common to the Philadelphia, southern New Jersey area (e.g. wooder, warshed), leaving only slight vestiges that come out when I say certain words that include a long “o” sound like “home” or “note.” Another factor is that I speak polish with my wife’s family so often that some of their habits have leaked into my speech. Specifically the use of letters like ą,ę and ł. Interestingly, these letters are perfect for spelling words spoken in a south jersey accent.

Actually as an English and history teacher I am forever analysing your dialect with some wonder, it's hard to place. When you say note I'm all rapture.

Rob - first class vocals, except for my distress over your contracted 'ing's - mor....n...ing has much more grace.

Rob, I've been diligently working on this song, wanting to make it my first FS song that I actually get through the whole song (eventually). I'm stuck however on the counting of the last 2 bars in the instrumental Break #1. The count seems off from the other measures. Could you clarify please? Thanks!

As usual a very good guitar lesson, I love it. I have a humble request for a song that I'd like to learn on aqoustic or electric guitar: "Roadhouse blues" by the doors. So if you like the idea, I'd be glad.

Sometimes they stick several videos together to make it look like he's there playing with him. Not sure if they ever performed it together live.

Another stunning lesson! I love combining the picking with the strumming and am fascinated by the key change. You just keep packing on the layers of knowledge you put here. BTW, I really love your new logo. Very classy!

Thanks for letting me know, I wonder if that's the same player performing on his live television performances?

Rick Wakeman on the piano in original recording!
