Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower" Guitar Lick Lesson

Hello friends

Welcome to another Swiftlessons Lick of the Week, powered by Patreon. In this tutorial, I'll break down a lick taken directly from Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 classic “All Along the Watchtower.” This is an impressive lick that truly captures Jimi’s unique style of lead guitar. Let’s get started!

Oh yeah that’s an annoying problem. I’m muting with the right hand, which occasionally causes me to accidentally silence the target note... with practice you find the sweet spot and the ratio of success improves.

I know this is an older lesson but I hope you could help! I can for sure learn the lick but whenever I bend I hit the string above and it sounds just unpleasant. I don't see you muting with your fingers so could you please tell me how you avoid this?

As a University of Vermont alumnus, most everybody would recognize Voodoo Chile (slight return) from the outset. Timeless indeed.

Hey Jean, I'll get this down and shoot a full lesson on the rhythm and lead guitar parts. It's on my short list!

Rob, any chance to give us a little breakdown on the rhythm part of it, i got the chords (i think), but still struggling on getting the strumming right (I know I suck...) Thanks, great lesson again

Great Lick lesson Rob. As an advanced beginner, if there is such a thing, I can almost play this lick SLOWLY, Love Jimi. As a side note as a 60 something college professor I have Jimi's Voodoo Chile as my phone ringtone. In the past several years I have played it for my students on the first day of class and not one has guessed it right. But after hearing it they want to know more about Jimi Hendrix. Timeless, Thanks, Bryan
