Answers to questions, or just my thoughts on things you guys mentioned. I feel like Paul was played by an actor who wasn't big and bulky because they wanted someone who didn't look threatening, or was kind of unassuming, so that he would have to surprise you and earn the viewers respect as a warrior, rather than screaming warrior right off the hop. Besides, being able to fight well doesn't always have to do with strength, and can often have very little to do with it, versus speed and skill and resourcefulness. I also think that's why he was given a very plain, unassuming name. Sometimes, the best heroes are the ones you do not see coming. Also, in the movie, Paul's age is never called out, but in the first book, which this first movie is supposed to be half, he's supposed to be fifteen. He looks like he might be a bit older in the film, but he wouldn't be more than 16 if he is. If he had much bulk, it wouldn't be credible. Liesan al Gieb and Kwiezatz Hadderach are both words for Massiah among the Fremen (the desert people). Both were implied to be as such several times, though Jessica said it flat out only of Liesan al Gieb. Often, in science fiction stories like this, it's common to have very Earthlike names. Speaking from a storytelling perspective, this is done to minimize having too many words that are hard to pronounce or to remember. From an "in universe" perspective, it is often meant to give the feel that the alien races may have very distant origins on Earth. I don't think that's ever said flat out in the books, but it's very common, and is sometimes left open to interpretation. I feel like the use of the last name Idaho is an obvious way to imply Earthen origins. I don't think a name that obviously Earth would be used otherwise. During the scene on the ship when you guys were telling Paul to use the Voice, he was trying. That's why he kept saying the same words. He was trying to get the Voice right. Jessica said Bene Gesseret skills take years to learn. At fifteen, he's going to have a long way to go. From what I've heard, this first film is the first half of book one of Dune. The second film is the second half of said book. The third is supposed to be based on book 2, Dune: Massiah. I don't know how many more movies there will be after that, or if there will be any. Thanks for such a great reaction. I love this movie, and I'm always happy to see people get so into it. What a great time, guys.
