Tattoo Parlour Thoughts

I’ve been following this artist for years and her unique style captivated me. I wanted to gift myself a piece of her work, so when I hustled hard at work last Spring I stashed some money away and booked an appointment.

I just wanted beautiful flowers, I suggested some of my faves, including birth month flowers for my most important people, and a bumble bee too. I loved her stencil, she drew the greenery freehand and got to work.

The rainbow palette was so pleasing. I was so excited. The first thing I noticed was her machine was so quiet! Previous tattoo memories invoke the loud rattling tattoo gun that accompanied them. She said her machine is quiet, because she prefers it that way, and quippped that a lot of dudes in hyper masculine tat shops choose the older louder rattly guns because the sound is intimidating.

What I love about this artist is the photorealistic style, there’s no black outline, it’s fine detail. And detail takes patience.

I sat for 5 and a half hours, previous sittings had been 3.5 and 4 hrs, so this was a new record. I was in blissful masochistic delight the whole time.

Her last detail was the white highlights throughout the piece, I winced once as the needle dragged over the already raw skin, she laughed that it was the only time all day I’d made a face. I felt tough.

I’m so in love with the final product.

Within an hour and a half I was already adding to it in my head, I don’t think it will be long before I’m back in her chair.

Behold the final photo of my bare arm.
