I will do my best to post when I can!

Yeah this one was interesting and certainly had a different feeling ending compared to other episodes I've seen.

The Alien Song is probably my favorite!

I too grew up listening to The Divine Comedy! I hope you'll sing more of her songs especially The Alien Song. The live version is great too, as I'm sure you know.

D. C. Fontana always did amazing work no matter what she did.

Ah yes, the ol' Deus Ex Machina trick (said in my best Maxwell Smart impersonation).

This was the first episode written by D. C. Fontana. Perhaps the most influential writer for the entire Star Trek franchise. You can always tell when D. C. wrote (or later produced) a show because the episode always made you think. D. C. chose the pen name "D. C. Fontana" because back in the mid-60s a female writing a television show was frowned on; not unheard of but she didn't want to have to deal with the nonsense and bias. Unfortunately, she left Star Trek after the 2nd season, and even more unfortunately you can seriously see the quality of the stories decline in the 3rd season. Later she became the Associate Producer and story editor for the Star Trek the Animated series, and I think this is the reason that series was good...if too short.

I've never really enjoyed this episode much and always put into the 'meh' file but I really enjoyed your take on it Bunny and seeing it for the first time through your eyes. This is true for all your reactions but this one really made me consider this episode in a more positive light. For anyone who has not seen it, the fan made mini series Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is REALLY good and acts as a sequel to the events of this episode. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Of_Gods_and_Men

I go back and forth on exactly how much I like this episode but I will say that I think it's well done with the exception of, yeah, the ending is a bit of a cop out. Although in fairness it's a sci-fi trope that gets used quite often across the board to get us out of seemingly insurmountable situations, the bigger more powerful thing that comes along to rectify the situation. But I like the concept of it. I like that they tried to make it weighty and dramatic when they could have easily gone silly and lighthearted. The acting and dialogue are great and it's's a perfect fit for Kirk's character. We get to see some everyday ship's life stuff with some added focus on a few side characters. Both Nichelle Nichols as Lt. Uhura and Grace Lee Whitney as Yeoman Janice Rand fucking ate that stage this episode. "Bring back Janice!" But at the end of the day I'm not sure it's quite enough to put it in my top tier. Second or third tier? Low-key sleeper? Well above average? Probably somewhere in that neighborhood. I certainly don't dislike it that's for sure. But I can think of at least half a dozen others I'm more excited for us to get to. Great reaction as always, see you in the next one.

Disturbing, yes... Amazing that the 'faceless' girl didn't asphyxiate before the Thasians came to the rescue... Since I was 5 or 6 (over 50 years ago), always one of the most disturbing moments for me was seeing that girl come around the corner.

I enjoyed that reaction Bunny! Keep it up. I'm hoping you'll post just a tad more often in the near future. I hope it's not a fool's hope... The Vulcan Lute (/ harp / lyre / lyrette / lytherette) was originally just a prop, sounds being added in post-production. Yes of course you'll see it again sometime during your Star Trek journey. A ST novel from the 80s names the instrument a ka'athyra, which I did not know until I researched it just now lol. I could not find a pronunciation; and this name, I believe, is not official Star Trek canon. Fun fact: There are fans who have created actual working Vulcan Lutes. I found this video-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRfbWrI03gc as an example. Ranks and positions, early season 1: Kirk, James Tiberius: Rank - Captain, current assignment - Command of USS Enterprise. Age 32. Spock: Rank - Commander (previously Lieutenant Commander), current assignment - First Officer and Chief Science Officer of USS Enterprise. Age 35. >IMO, they messed up there; he should be a bit older, but that's just imo< McCoy, Leonard Horatio: Rank - Lieutenant Commander, current assignment - Chief Medical Officer and Chief Surgeon of USS Enterprise. Age 38. Scott, Montgomery: Rank - Lieutenant Commander, current assignment - Chief Engineer of USS Enterprise. Age 43. Uhura, Nyota: Rank - Lieutenant, current assignment - Chief Communications Officer of USS Enterprise. Age 26. Sulu, Hikaru: Rank - Lieutenant, current assignment - Chief Helmsman of USS Enterprise. Age 28. Rand, Janice: Rank - Petty Officer 1st Class, current assignment - Captain's Yeoman of USS Enterprise (replacing Barbara Smith - the one Kirk kept calling "Jones" in Where No Man Has Gone Before). Age 24 (or 16 according to one novel - a time-dilation thing made her subjective/apparent age 24 years). I did not include Chekov, as he is not actually IN season 1; though there are indications in canon that he was aboard Enterprise during (at least some of) the events of season 1.

I've always found this episode a little disturbing. It is good though.
