Ugh. Yeah they really seemed to be strongly hinting that he was not going to make it but... I didn't think they would actually go through with the death of a young character like that. I didn't much care for Jet, but he was really beginning to redeem himself in my eyes right towards the end there. I feel guilty for judging him so harshly when I knew that he had gone through a lot of pain and due to his age and inexperience, couldn't make the best decisions or control his emotions that well. I'm really sad to hear this. :(

2023-06-06 19:39:04 +0000 UTCJet is dead. Confirmed in the DVD commentary. Nickelodeon had a policy that forbade showing a child's death onscreen, so they had to re-write the scene, apparently. Popular theory is that Longshot originally drew his bow to mercy-kill a mortally-wounded Jet, but I haven't been able to find anything official on that. Other clues include Katara saying "This isn't good" when she realized that his injuries were beyond her healing capabilities, Smellerbee's unabashed tears, Longshot' speaking for the first and only time ever in the show, and Toph saying "He's lying" after Jet told Katara he'd be fine. Even he knew. Also confirmed by the creators is that Jet was Katara's first real kiss, off-screen, so you weren't imagining the lingering chemistry, and Katara was not overstating her feelings of betrayal. Toph could, indeed, tell she was lying about Jet having been her boyfriend, however briefly.
