Oh So Hero! Dev Preview #1

This is the first in the new series of development previews that we previously announced.

This entry will give a look into both the programming side of the project, which is handled by Ket, and the art side of the project, which is handled by Red!

Ket's Update:

Hey everyone! I'm currently working on the gallery. This will allow the player to review animations they've seen in-game. It will start simple, but we will be adding more features to it over time.

Whenever you encounter a sex animation in the game—which includes everything from a swooned fap to a fullscreen game over animation—it will be unlocked in the gallery. This is one aspect I just took care of in code.

Simple stuff. Can be optimized later, but does the job clean. I'll explain some of it in more detail.

Any animation that plays (and is a sex animation) will automatically call MarkAsPlayed. It will then be considered unlocked in the gallery. However, we still need to save this info if the player exits the game, so whenever the player triggers a game save (ISave.OnSaving), or gets a game over, we'll pop everything new off into a special file outside the regular save file. This is meta game save data (GalleryData.es3).

ES3 (Easy Save 3) is a library we use for reading and writing data on disk. The data that is written to the disk is not encrypted. You know what that means... easier development! (We may encrypt it later.) When the player views the gallery, this will be used to know which animations are unlocked for viewing.

But with this done, there's still a lot of work to complete. We need to be able to get into and out of the gallery, we need to design the UI (user interface), we need to filter by character and location, we need to be able to load the asset bundles, and most importantly, we need to provide controls for animation playback. And that's just the first version of the gallery. With future iterations, I hope to provide things such as a "favorites" feature, additional filters, and even more ways to control the playback of the animations. It'll take time, but it will be worth it!

We will also have a skill menu available to review moves and abilities. UI work is basic, but it still takes a while to set up. These things are gonna be rolled out over time.

Definitely. "Usable" is the word ive been looking for... But one more thing... Could there be a way to have a second look on how to use newly unlocked skills? Especially for new players who don't take too much focus on the conversations... But anyway... Great work so far guys. Keep it up 👍

Hey, I don't know if you take requests in comments but would you consider an options menu for changing keybinds? Setting up the keyboard for 1 handed play would would make the game...more uh...usable... yeah, let's go with that.
