no vo: Travis Scott - UTOPIA (album reaction)

Just a little reminder that I don't plan to post full, uncut reactions due to my incompetence on copyright law, and because I don’t have a system in place to send royalties to the copyright holders. So cut versions without the voiceovers/community favourites is at max what I feel comfortable offering in that regard.

I would like to recommend the $uicideboy$ “sing me a lullaby” but if you’ve heard it and listen to them then nvm but yea 👍

Jmop

i listened to Process last year since ppl recommended it so much after i fell in love w his feature on Father Time :') i'll check out james blake though, i've only ever heard him featured with others!

path

I would heavily recommend Sampha’s “Process” (unless you’ve already heard it ofc) and James Blake’s “Friends That Break Your Heart”.

no bc i still havent seen star wars 😭

path

You mentioned the star wars reference in the lyrics but did you notice on MELTDOWN they sample the Tie Fighter Blaster SFX.

SnakeYikes

Now you have to do ASTROWORLD

Him and most of his label YSL are in prison awaiting their trial to reach a verdict. His albums this year was lack luster for kinda the same reason 😭. Basically they are a gang from Atlanta that also has a record label of the same name

i’m sure you realised quickly that lyrics aren’t really important for artists like travis. he has great tone, pitch, flow etc but lyrics wise he just isn’t someone you go for. heroes and villains is definitely a great album that is a lot less experimental but has that very dark and cinematic vibe like utopia there’s also some great artists here that are worth exploring for example westside gunn has a solo album called prey for paris which is only 36 mins

James Nash

if you like the 'dark, cinematic, orchestral' vibes you gotta listen to heroes & villains !!

Psykopomp

HE'S WHAT????

path

oh absolutely vibing regardless of how unserious it was LOL

Lmaoooooo I had the same fucking reaction for Topia Twins. Shit had me dying laughing but I was high key vibin bro 😭😭

Also if you enjoy the cinematic aspect rodeo is his most critically acclaimed album and is very cinematic as well

Thug's voice is very off-putting somewhat intentionally. This verse was pretty eh because he is currently in prison. Normally his voice is almost used as an instrument with weird but fun and enjoyable inflections

Also if you haven't checked out Friends that break your heart by James Blake I HIGHLY recommend. There's a really fucking fire JID verse in there (;

I hadn't ever heard Young Thug either until Heroes & Villains by Metro Boomin and I really like his style honestly. You should check that album out if you wanna hear a really awesome trap album with an interesting concept to it and some voiceovers from Morgan Freeman himself. Metro is definitely one of my favorite producers. I heard he did the music for the 2 new animated Spider man movies about Miles Morales so I gotta peep those
