Hey Everyone!
I’m in the process of putting the final touches on Version 17, which means it’s time for the preview!
For those who don’t know, pre-update preview posts like this are a recap of the weekly update posts and more information to make sure everyone has a good idea of the update that’s being released this weekend!
Population is Now a Resource
The major changes in Version 17 revolve around tweaking the game’s fundamentals to better prepare it for future features and expansion. Civilization population is a key new feature to that effect.
You’ll now start with a population of 500 citizens that will grow slowly over time. Your subjects will supply you with gold in the way of taxes and consume food regularly to maintain and grow. Your population’s sexes will be broken up into males, females and futas – and each will be represented by a percent. Over time you’ll be able to sculpt your population however you desire through the use of laws.
To account for a lot of these changes, military units will now cost gold instead of food in order to maintain and there have been multiple building changes to better represent/fit the new system.
Building Restrictions and Outposts
To better represent an actual civilization/empire and create more thought-provoking gameplay, you’re no longer going to be able to build wherever you want, whenever you want. Instead, you’ll only be able to build in a radius of 4 tiles in each direction around your capital.
However, you’ll also be able to build outposts that will enable you to build structures further away from your capital. As you progress through the game, you’ll also be able to specialize each outpost to provide you with more resources of a specific type.
Other Small Additions
There have been a number of new events added to the game, along with an extension to the Abstinencia storyline that occurs after you’ve conquered them.
Eight new images have also been added to the game, including the goblin tribeswoman depicted in the picture above.
For more detailed information about all the changes being made in Version 17, along various bug fixes and even more minor tweaks not discussed in this post, be sure to check out the changelog that’ll come with the new version.
The Need for Feedback
A lot of the changes being made in Version 17 are in order to prepare the game for Chapter 2. It’s virtually impossible for me to test every little nook and cranny of the new systems. I’ll be relying a lot on player feedback and those who make their thoughts known will likely have a huge impact on the future of XXXivilization. Positive or negative, I’m hoping a lot of you will help me out.
I have to get back to polishing Version 17 as much as possible now. I hope you’re all looking forward to it as much as I’m looking forward to releasing it.
