Weekly Update – It’s all about the people

Hello everyone,

Version 17 is starting to shape up and should be ready in a few weeks. This week I managed to finish the biggest feature for the upcoming release, and I want to take a bit of time to talk about it:

A new resource will be introduced in version 17 – citizens. This will shake up a lot of things in the game and will change the balancing a lot, which is why I’m adding this feature now in order to gather feedback on it before chapter 2. Your citizens will consume food and produce gold by paying taxes, and at the end of each turn more citizens will join your kingdom depending on available food and the general fertility of your population. At the beginning of each turn they will then need more food but also pay more taxes, meaning you’ll have to keep an eye on the growth of your population. Your population will also grow when you conquer new lands and, depending on which territory you acquire, you’ll get different types of people. For example, conquering land from the Futamazons will increase the number of Futas in your empire.

Your army will no longer be payed with food but with gold. This means that you have to be sure to have enough farms to keep your population fed so that it can grow and pay more taxes, enabling you to grow and pay a larger army.

New laws will be also introduced in version 17, which focus on ways to increase your population’s fertility as well as laws giving you an option to have your slaves focus on specific tasks. You could either have them breed the whole day, which will give you a boost to your population growth, or you could have them focus on manual labor, increasing resource production instead.

There are still a couple of other features and events missing for version 17 but they should be less effort than the population overhaul.

I will of course keep you updated on the progress and would be happy to hear what you think of the upcoming changes.

Not in the near future. If I want to add pregnancy and breeding to the game I want to do it well and that means it is a really large feature and I have to prioritize it a bit lower than other things.

Are we going to be able to personally breed/get bred by our civilians?

This sounds kinda interesting. To some extent it means you should allow the neighbor nations to grow depending on what kind of citizen you'll want to have. Good stuff.
