Surgery Update/Poll
Added 2024-05-01 21:27:22 +0000 UTCOkay, so I finally have more information about what my surgery situation is going to look like. Tentatively scheduled for May 30th. I'm gonna be out of commission for a month at the absolute minimum. Like, I'll be in a back brace, unable to drive a car, most likely unable to sit at my computer/iPad desk, etc. When will I be able to draw again? I don't know. Might be the second the back brace comes off, could be 2 months, I have no idea. I've heard from others who have had the same issue/surgery that they were able to do yard work 2 months after surgery, which sounds wild to me. Sitting in a computer chair and leaning forward slightly is less strenuous than yard work, but we'll see. Depends on a thousand factors, but obviously I hope I'll be back in the blueberry saddle ASAP.
BUT, that brings me to the poll. My intention is to put everything else on hold for this month and work just on Rogue as much as I can. To try and get several months worth of posts ready to be scheduled so that I don't actually have to pause my Patreon at any point. I have been chipping away at my still pretty beefy commissions list, but the income from that is incredibly uneven. Some commissions take 3 days, some 3 weeks, some 3 months. Can't really pay bills reliably with that kind of schedule. But Patreon? It's been my main source of regular reliable income for years now and it's been what I've been prioritizing above all else. And I'd like to keep it up and running through my recovery if I can.
My Rogue minicomic is going to be somewhere between 7-9 pages total (and I'd loooove to do some animation with her if possible), and I'm already a pretty good ways into the first 2 pages. My plan is to get as much done with this project before my surgery at the end of the month so I can schedule posts when I'm recuperating in June-to-whenever I'm able to tolerate my normal drawing posture. Is that alright with you guys? I'd really prefer not to have to pause my regular source of income for a few months, but I don't want y'all to feel like I'm cheating or taking advantage or anything by getting work done ahead of time. If I'm unable to draw for longer than I have posts scheduled, I would of course pause the whole thing. I'm just hoping it doesn't come to that.
What say ye? If you have any thoughts or concerns please let me know. Also, keep in mind that while I'd definitely be crunching to do so many pieces in a month, I'm looking forward to it. Rogue is a dream to draw and I intend to get many pieces of her done soon regardless of how it all shakes out anyway.

BTW I plan to post what sketches I have within a day or two so you can see what's to come regarding our favorite southern belle. ;)

2024-05-02 00:05:18 +0000 UTCThanks so much! Near as I can tell, there's basically no chance this surgery could make it *worse* so even if it takes a while, I should be able to draw no problem with enough time.
