TLS Art Preview #48
Added 2025-09-10 17:00:11 +0000 UTCFor quite a while, these posts have just been marching down the scenes of Chapter 4, but this one is an exception. None of these three were on our chronological list, actually.
First, we have the last: these images will play alongside the text with Yarra at the end of the game. Since many players will reach the end of the game between now and finishing all the other scenes, I want them to finish on a sweet note. ^-^
Then we have "Yarra Teasing"... I never intended that scene to be illustrated, but since it's in the Reflect menu, people have been demanding it for a long time. I considered removing it from Reflect, but in the end decided to commission another scene for it. This will mean more art in the beginning of the game, hopefully encouraging people to keep going.
And on that note, we have a scene redraw: Riala and Simon in the prologue. Generally speaking, redoing work is a way to never get anything done, but I made an exception for this, because it's the first scene players will see after the fake Chosen art. Hopefully it has an impact, impressing people enough to catch their interest.
(The dark-eyed image displays for only a split-second and is the moment when Riala implanted the shard in Simon. I never intended to illustrate this, but enough people have brought it up that I decided to just go with it. Another detail to make more sense on replays.)
That is most likely the last scene to be redrawn for the 1.0.0 release. I considered others, but I feel like that would just delay all the other art for too long. One prologue scene is doable, but moving beyond that quickly leads to scope creep.
Little inside information for $10 backers: I am making great TLS progress on many fronts! A huge number of revisions are completely struck off the list, I have figured out the DLC problems, and I'm working on a new ledger screen. That said, I'm not sure how close we are to the release, because there are so many tasks to juggle and they don't all depend on me alone.

The new art is incredible. I love the changes to the prologue art, it tells a great visual story even without the words. The end-of-game art is amazing as well, I think it will serve as a great wrap up to the game. I'm intrigued what kind of DLC you've decided to go for, and what other changes you have made. It's exciting.

Also I'm hella biased, because I find Riala and Simon's relationship very compelling. This scene has a lot of complicated feelings to deal with and deserved art to match - kudos to Ni for doing such a good job!
