Project recovery ❤️‍🩹

Good news – the project probably can be restored. Bad news – everything has a price. It’s also a lesson to keep up to date backups on a separate device!

And yeah, plastic is a bit clunky. Would take some time to figuring it out

Oh, that’s a solid setup! I made a daily backups… on the same raid lol 😂 Now I extend it to separate drive (in addition to the cloud) as well

Oh man, that sucks to the extreme - I hope at that price that they're actually able to recover the data for you (or that you get a rebate if they cannot). I run daily backups of anything critical, weekly for everything else to a dedicated server here in the house (which is just an old desktop system with a lot of drives in a ZFS raidz2 configuration - I can lose two of those drives without losing any data); and all of those get duplicated once every few weeks to additional offline storage here at home, and get synced (daily for the dailies, once a week for everything else) up to the cloud in case we get robbed or the house burns down. Cost a bit (in coin and time) to establish all that but it's saved my ass more than a few times. Be careful on your plastic scm version control setup, make sure that it's catching everything that you need (including assets, not just code) AND that it's got solid versioning on it so you don't wind up with a corrupted instance in the cloud when you screw something up at home (mirroring has is downsides!) - and test recovery before you need it, you don't want to have to figure that out on the fly!

I had some experience with mbr and partition tables “per byte” restoration many years ago and willing to say - never again. I would let much experienced people to do it 😅😅😅 Next time I will just expand my plastic scm version control to cloud storage since I’m using it anyway

I've done my own data recovery, and at that cost they're either taking you for a ride or they had to do physical recovery work on the device. Backups are never bad. Should also have an 'online' storage system like a NAS running RAID 5 or 6.
