I'm not going to comment on Platner in particular, but I don't think the idea that a veteran being proud of their service is a red flag unto itself. Maybe that's not what you meant to say but it sounds like it. If there's one thing the left continues to shoot itself in the foot on, it's purity testing and how it stands in the way of coalition building. Veterans are one of the most abused populations by the conservative legislation paradigm and while there are some folks that proclaim proud complicity ideologically with the military industrial complex and American imperialist agenda, the reality of most service members and veterans political orientations are far more nuanced, just like the general population.
