The Democratic National Convention: Gaza, Fact Checks, Vibes, And Joy? – EARLY ACCESS, AD-FREE, AND UNCENSORED

Hi. Let's take a look back at the 2024 Democratic National Convention – what the speakers said, the media reaction, the right-wing grifters who tried to infiltrate it, and what we would have really liked to see.

(Note: We're releasing the main video to YouTube on Thursday or Friday, since tonight is the first presidential debate, and Katy, Cody, and Jonathan will be recording a new Even More News immediately afterward, which will be released tomorrow.)

Very apt that Warmbo’s last name is Lieberman.

34:00 "pro life": can we have the outtakes of this? Pleeeaaaaseeeee? It looks like this reaction needed multiple takes and it's lovely

I can only feel so bad about you cannibalizing the wormblets when they talked you into concussing yourself with a claw hammer. Also, I saw that Robert Evans cameo. Biden might not love you, Robert, but we do. From a safe distance. Behind cover. Because you're a man with many machetes and that's a lesson you only have to learn once, and I'll not be fooled like that again.

here's what I typed out & then cut to clipboard: The reason the Democrats won't put forward a progressive policy agenda, just focused on the progressive policies that consistently poll well, particularly in swing states, isn't because they're afraid if they do so they'll lose. It's because they're afraid that if they put such an agenda forward and *win*, they might actually have to *do* whatever specific things they promised. And that's precisely what they *don't* want - even more than losing the election. It's not surprising that Kamala co-sponsored a strong single-payer bill in the Senate, where she knew it had no chance of passing. She learned from the Democrats in the California legislature, who routinely passed a really good single-payer bill, as long as there was a Republican Governor to veto it. Then, as soon as a Democrat was elected Governor, and they had a veto-proof majority to boot, they suddenly lost the ability to even craft a coherent single-payer bill, much less pass one - and we simply don't talk about that anymore. The Democratic Party's whole entire strategy since Clinton has been "triangulation". That strategy follows the logic: the "base" - the working class, women, oppressed groups, etc. - have nowhere else to go; the only thing required to keep them voting Democrat is to be not-the-Republicans; therefore, the smart move is to go after the votes of "Reagan Democrats" (as they were called in my day). Except that's not quite right either. Because even when a policy has broad popular support, and that support only ever goes up whenever that policy is actually implemented - such as single-payer - *they won't do it*. Because *they don't want to.* What we have here is a neoliberal duopoly; one relies on gauzy New Deal/Great Society nostalgia to appeal to progressives, while the other rallies the reactionaries around white christian nationalism and resentment - but their only policy differences revolve around the white christian nationalist stuff. Whenever it comes to the core neoliberal program, they aren't opponents at all. They're a tag team. "We won't go back" is an interesting slogan. It describes the function of the Democratic Party in the neoliberal duopoly, but in reverse. They're the part of the ratchet that keeps things from moving too far "left". But in order to do that, the Democratic Party desperately needs one thing to remain true: that there is no one else to vote for, nowhere else to go. That's why they aren't half as worried about people sitting the election out as they are about people voting "third party" - not only in swing states, but in *any* state. That's why their lawyers are out trying to get Greens and socialists kicked off the ballot everywhere, and their public opinion apparatus is pushing hard as well. Fortunately, I live in California (and specifically San Francisco), and I know two things: I know the state went 2:1 against Trump the last two times, making it *mathematically impossible* to throw the state to Trump; and I know who Kamala Harris is, I was here for her origin story. So I am free to vote for the socialist party on the California ballot (Peace and Freedom), and laugh at anyone trying to claim I'm helping Trump in any way. And yeah, our numbers haven't been that great in the past - because the Democratic PR apparatus has done its job so well, convincing everyone they *have* to vote Democrat "or else". *But you don't!* Even if everyone who voted for Bernie in the California primaries (either or both times) had voted for the socialists in November, that would have been *2 million votes* for a socialist in one state, twice the nationwide record, and Trump would *still* have been trounced by a 3:2 margin. If you want to "hold their feet to the fire", this is the only way to do it - the only thing you can threaten them with ... an alternative, somewhere else for people to go.

I got to writing, but as usual, what I had to say required more explanation and detail than this format has room for. So I cut it. Maybe I'll paste it in below. The tl;dr is, you don't *have* to vote for the Democrats to stop Trump, if you live in California or any other similarly safe state. California went 2:1 against Trump both times; you *can't* throw the state to Trump. But even a small but noticeable percentage going to the Greens and/or the socialist Peace and Freedom party would be, well, noticeable. And I'll stop here for the tl;dr summary.

Agreed. I just have no idea how to begin.

at this point it feels more and more like revolution is the only real way forward...everything else feels like circling the drain PS: this whole thing feels very "We Happy Few" ...

Sharien Radaik

yeah it was jarring to hear her praise israel and then talk about "what happened in gaza in the last 10 months" ... lady... how about what happened in the LAST COUPLE FUCKING DECADES what a fucking monster...

Sharien Radaik

It was extremely dystopian to have the joy joy party while supporting the genocide. According to an estimate published in The Lancet, nearly two hundred thousand Palestinians have been murdered as of June.

Sam Larson

Cody going to moredor wasn't what i was expecting but okay.

Not a fan of a billionaire being my governor, but he's honestly been pushing a lot of good policies that I think haven't made it onto people's radars because the Midwest isn't very sexy lol

Loved this episode! 😍

I need you guys to know that your show (along with a few others) has turned me into a giant, radical, militant, leftist and I can’t wait to hit a fascist in the face with a bat. Thanks guys. 🫡😅
