I understand the argument of it being “too late” to do anything about Sotomayor but I feel like if the Democrats were an effective (read:able to exert power to deliver on promises to key constituencies) political party they would politely tell Sotomayor (and maybe Kagan too tbh) to bow out and be replaced by female judges 20 years younger than they are and at least as liberal. If Trump wins in 2024 and one or both of them are stuck under a Republican presidency for (at least!) 4 more years then that’s not a guarantee. Best time to do it was 2021, next best time is now.
