My step mother is a migrant from Venezuela. My father is an intensely racist MAGA guy. Logic is not part of it for them. Data doesn't make any difference to them. Even their own lived experience doesn't.

I am wondering how much of Hur's report was "edited" to make it seem even worse for Biden. Also, it is hard to take a report from someone who is as politically right wing you can get and still have a job in the government. It is like a super-right wing douche was selected to show how non-biased the administration is. But I also think a lot of the stuff mentioned in the report was made to sound like it could relate to Trump so they can have the same excuse for not prosecuting Trump because of his age and memory. Except for the grandfatherly part that I doubt Trump could pull off since he is such a narcissist he does not really care about others, not even relatives. But yeah, I wish neither candidate was way past retirement age and that Biden would realize his age is a huge issue.

So, I appreciated the talk of immigration, but I wanted to shift the point of view. I don't think we should argue for people being allowed to immigrate/stay in the US because it helps the economy; I think it should be because people should have the right to move freely. Specifically why the US should accept immigrants- how many of the countries these people are coming from were fucked over by the CIA, American companies, or both? If anything, it's a debt that we finally have the chance to pay. Now, I'm just a simple space chicken lawyer, so I have no idea how well that plays outside of my leftist bubble. But, at least among friends, I think centering the experience of the migrants is a better way to approach immigration discussions.

You perfectly voiced my despair, it's like Dems are trying to lose on purpose. Which wouldn't surprise me since the same lobbyists pay both sides. I am convinced we will be under corporate rule until my rotting corpse turns to dust

I do think the vision might be great for games or maybe ttrpgs like DnD

I have a minor quibble with Cody’s take on Apple Vision Pro, which I have to phrase carefully because y’all are technically “press…” Part of the reason a product like that might be so expensive from Apple is because the device itself is the product, not the user—so it’s not likely to be subsidized by ad or subscription sales. So I wouldn’t expect it to ever force ads into the user’s field of view, and I wouldn’t expect it to violate users’ privacy. However, I have no such expectations of third party applications running on it, such as the usual social media apps… At least the device and operating system strictly control what access apps have.

Hey all, love the show in general. Listening to the completely valid criticism of the age of candidates and that it should be a factor but…can it be? Like, I’m going to vote for Biden come 2024 as well as basically just filling out the democrat bubble down the line. My vote really doesn’t matter nationally because I live in New York or my district because I come from the illustrious district that elected George Santos. But seriously, what’s the benefit of talking about this? Hey this guy is an incredibly shitty option…but hey the other guy is just so much worse, the two options for the presidency are probably the least popular options the country has ever seen and yet apparently we literally cannot get anyone else as a realistic option. Would actual democratic primaries help? Yes! They absolutely would! But then that’s also how we ended up with this person as the candidate, its also how Trump ended up as the candidate despite literally every republican at the time basically begging their entire party not to vote for him. Clearly the system is…probably? Irrecoverable at this point, I vote democrat because at the bare minimum they seem marginally less hypocritical in certain ways and they seem to actually want to allow people like the LGTBQ community to continue being people as opposed to corpses. I’m also a civil servant so you know…they dont seem to have a candidate that is proposing firing me based on my social security number. But I listen to stuff like this and just kind of say…oh alright, so I guess the whole thing is just fucked to the point that there is no point? Is really the only option at this point just keep pretending its all working until Trump or someone who follows him finally fully kills democracy and we go into full dictatorship, that lasts however long, and then fingers crossed in a generation or two there is some kind of overthrow and those people write a constitution with far more protections against this kind of soft coup utilizing the courts and endlessly blocking the legislature? Or is this us running into the Fermi paradox and its about time for humanity to be the next bit of cosmic dust that outgrew its capacity to keep itself from annihilating itself?

What is your proposed alternative?

The Dem reaction to Hur calling out Biden's advancing senility perfectly illustrates why they're failing so badly lately. Most voters don't pay close attention to politics, but some problems are so obvious that even a casual observer notices them. The Dems are so committed to maintaining the status quo that they claim the problem doesn't exist, which makes them seem stupid or dishonest or both
