Oh, you'd be amazed at the voice actors that Futurama got, a lot because of previous The Simpsons appearances, though they got Al Gore to appear many times because his daughter was a writer for the show.

His character was written to be played by Phil Hartman, however before Futurama went into production Phil Hartman was tragically murdered. I still remember the day it happened vividly, I had been a fan of Phil Hartman from SNL and was a fan of the sitcom Newsradio which he was one of the stars of. They eventually got a different actor to act in Phil's style and they named the main character of Futurama after him, Philip J. Fry. He had a long history of voice acting with The Simpsons, that's why they made a character just for him. A lot you are probably younger than me, but look up the work of Phil Hartman, he was a great comedic actor and mostly stuck to supporting roles but he was great.
