Maria [Step by step]

Here you will find the creation process, I hope it'll help you organize your work if you are learning to draw, or you just have fun watching the steps :)

1. rough sketch

I draw with large silhouettes, do not try to detail. The drawing is simplified as much as possible to see the main elements of the composition, and how they work with each other. The best way to check if the composition is ok is to reduce the image to 5 - 10 percent.

2. detailed sketch

I try to think over clothes, hair and body as accurately as possible. The less lazy I am doing this step, the less problems I have with the lineart later.

3. check the character by the golden ratio

It seems to me that when I adjust to the lines of the golden ratio, the drawing looks more harmonious.

4. time for lineart

I try to build constructive lines in my head, such as the character's skeleton. Where the shape goes deeper, or a shadow is created under the object, the lines become thicker. I usually loosen the lines inside the object, such as curls of hair or folds of clothing. I make the shape outside thicker with lines.

5. check the golden ratio again

Colored lines marked the motifs of the golden ratio. for example, orange motifs match with the golden ratio curl. Red lines as character boundaries that I won't go beyond.

6. base colors and background

I make base colors of the character. Then I make a detailed background. The 3D cat is also here to help me put together the big picture and decide whether it looks good for me or not.

7. start rendering the character

I make a white layer so as not to be distracted by the background. Begin to build light and shadow. For me, the easiest way is to start skin + eyes, and then proceed to clothes and hair.

8. fix the character with the background

After I've finished rendering, I add a couple of layers on top of the character's folder to tie it to the background. Add a cat, and everything is almost ready.

9. last edit

I detail some things and transfer picture to Photoshop. I edit as I like with the CameraRaw filter.
