First Q&A’s Time!

Post your questions in comments, or in a message through the week. Art questions, or even non art questions are welcome (if you feel like getting to know me, haha)

Edit: I decided to open it to all tiers this time just to see the level of input.

Thank you, that was really interesting! I definitely can feel the depth of the characters in your art!

Also, I’d be happy to answer any art questions you might have! I’ll be making a Q&A again next month!

My sister also got a degree and hated it as soon as she started working. It’s a strange thing having wasted time, but at least you can recognize when you’re not happy and find something that makes you less miserable.

Zara H

That’s funny actually - I’m in the middle of that same process now. Went to school, got a degree in architecture and realized as soon as I started working how much I hated it. You’re so right about digital really feeling like you’re starting over - I really wish schools pushed artistic careers more, I always found myself guided away from them toward more “serious” options. Silly

You know I never actually thought about that until you mentioned it! Haha. I think it’s always been a subconscious thing, but I definitely do try it. Especially when it’s a character from a story or like my DND character, I try to draw their personality through the expression, or the emotions that brought upon that drawing. With my vampires especially I try to convey their personality and rank through their expressions; the dangerous ones would almost be flirting with the viewer through their gaze, while tortured ones are looking away or have their eyes closed.

Hmm good question! I like using light blues for touches of shadow on skin tone, I also tend to go on the warmer side of colors most often, but I’d say one of my favorite colors to draw in is red. Although I don’t use it often I really like it and often try to go vibrant with it when I do.

Zara H

…(it hit send before I was done, oops). Drawing is something I’ve always loved since childhood but never though I could make anything of it. After college I decided to get one of the cheapest tablets ever and try to teach myself to draw digitally. It took some time because I had no idea what I was doing, but also the shift to digital was like learning to draw all over again. Once I actually got serious about it a few years later and started drawing more regularly I really got the hang of it. Now I try not to go too long without drawing so I’m not rusty again.

I went to school for photography, believe it or not cause I’m not great at that! I definitely regret going, the program wasn’t great and I wasted years and money on it, but it did help me find people I still consider some of my closest friends, so it’s not all bad.

Zara H

Characters for sure, but to be more specific fantasy, vampires. Those are always my go to when I’m finding it hard to get inspired. I especially like incoperating POC in these settings because you don’t see them as often in media portraying characters like elves and vampires. More recently I’m starting to develop an interest in horror-characters. Not exactly creature art, but a character that has an eery haunting vibe to them. I’m hoping to do more ghostly art soon! And of course more vampires haha

Zara H

I love how lively and expressive your art is! To me your artworks often feels as if the characters were about to say or do something. Thus I wonder if you have some specific scenario/interaction in mind when you create them? Or are you more conscious of the general mood/emotion and other aspects of the work?

If I get enough of these this week I’ll make a video responding to them. If not, then I’ll respond in text 💜

Are there colours you're always drawn to or want to constantly use in your pieces?

Wren

Did you go to school for art or is it a skill you’ve taught yourself?

Alyssa Reynolds

What sort of subject matter do you like doing art of the most? Are there any that you'd like to do more of in the future, if you had the chance?
