Seth Chapter 85

Chapter 85

The arrows shot through the air like missiles and hit a barrier that Rebecca haphazardly created, but it wasn't able to stop the impact as the three of them flew away.

Seth tasted dirt as his knees scraped through the stone floor before he balanced himself in front of a wall.

Looking down on its bleeding knees and feeling his bruised face, he frowned.

This isn't good.

He hadn't expected the fury to have some sort of a second phase, but it seemed like the Stormweaver was a fan of surprises. And this one had certainly shook Seth and his party members.

Xarth seemed to be pushing himself to walk, his arm broken as he held his axe in only one hand. Zara and Rebecca were far more injured, gulping down drops of the last health potion they had left.

Good thing was that Zacky looked better now and Log seemed unharmed, swinging his mace to defend against the lightning arrows that flew in every direction.

All of them weren't in the best condition, but it would do for now.

“What's the plan?” Zara yelled, shooting rows of fireballs towards the incoming arrows. They clashed together and exploded.

“Same as before. It had lost one of its arms. He can't swing the axe well from one hand. Just be careful from the bolts and arrows. Also, run if it suddenly charges at you,” Seth said, checking up his mana and health. He had enough to keep going for a while.

“It's not as easy as you are making it out to be,” Xarth grunted. “That bastard deals a nasty punch.”

“Nothing is. We just have no other option until you want to die by getting zapped or crushed.”

“Okay, just attack it from all sides. Don't give it a moment to rest.”

With that, both Log and Seth charged towards the fury. More arrows and bolts shot towards them, but a forceball and fireball protected them, exploding as both of them rolled to the side to escape the impact.

Using Flickering Step, Seth appeared a few steps away from the fury, making sure to not get struck by lightning and stared at it.

The fury's eyes glowed as he kept shooting out more and more arrows, holding its axe in one hand with lightning cackling all over it. The spinning orb gave off a gleam.

Taking a deep breath, Seth dived right into it, abyssal mana coating the tip of his blade as it slashed at its leg, taking its attention.

The fury let out a guttural noise before swinging its axe down at him which he easily dodged before taking out his secondary dagger.

Rolling on the ground to escape from the axe of the hulking giant, he conjured up blades and shot it towards the core. They made more scratches on it as the golem roared with annoyance.

With its attention on Seth, he didn't notice Log moving from the back to hit it with his mace. A cracking sound occured as he smashed his weapon onto the fury's legs, taking out a chunk.

He moved to strike again, his mace glowing, but the golem struck before it could, squatting it like a fly on the ground with its axe before stomping onto him.

Log wasn't able to get out on time as a painful cry echoed in the chamber.

“Log!” Xarth shouted out, smashing his axe on the floor as a fissure opened up, heading straight towards the fury and it stumbled back.

Taking the opportunity, Zara hit it with a large bolt of fire which exploded on impact, but it didn't do much, leaving only a few marks on its chest.

Seth hurriedly moved towards Log, staring down at his body. He was alive, but blood covered his armour and his legs seemed to be broken. He moved his lips, but blood leaked out of them.

Picking him up, Seth moved back, out of the range of the fury and put Log against a wall. Opening up the last vial of potion he had saved, he poured half into his mouth.

“Just rest here, big guy. You are done for the fight,” he said and for a second, Log seemed to protest, but he shook his head, knowing his body needed a lot of rest before he could even walk.

Turning back, he saw Xarth, Zara and Zacky working against the fury with the aid of Rebecca's barrier.

Xarth seemed to be in a fit of rage as he clanged his own axe against the fury, his arms trembling as lightning climbed through it, but he kept on it. Zacky hit the golem's back with his daggers, using his speed to climb up its shoulders and break the arrows jutting from its back.

But the fury shook, making him fall on the ground with a thud before an arrow struck right in its leg.

As lightning zapped him, he let out a loud yelp of pain and held his bleeding leg.

Zara came to his rescue, firing more and more explosive spells, but they barely did much and from her pale face, he knew it was a matter of time before she would be out of mana.

Frowning, his mind raced on what to do.

Aside from him, there were only Zara and Xarth who kept up with the fury. Rebecca was a good support, but like Zara, her dependence on mana meant she could run out of it anytime.

If he wanted to finish it, he would have to do it now.

His eyes searched around for something. The treasure chests, the broken statue, The Weather Staff under the pile of rubble and debris. If he knew how to use it properly, he would have already picked it up, but for now, it was out of the question.

As he kept looking around, his eyes fixed onto the broken arm of the fury and wires jutting out of it. Maybe, that was it, but due to their height difference, it was almost impossible to get to it.

Wait, I know what to do.

He quickly decided on a course of action as a plan formed in his head. If there was no way to harm the fury from the outside, he was going to mess up its insides.

Using his Cloak of Shadows to disappear out of the fury's sights, he made a run through the wall, keeping an eye on the battle between it and Xarth which kept shaking up the whole chamber.

The beastman seemed to be on its last leg with a good half of its head bleeding, but his axe kept clashing against the fury, even making it stumble back from time to time.

Mentally applauding his strength, Seth climbed up the set of stairs on the right, leaping over a couple of steps at once before landing on top of the railing. From here, it was a straight jump towards the fury.

Without an ounce of hesitation, he waited until the fury was at the right position before he jumped, landing right above its severed arm. Both of his blades started cutting through the frayed wires, electricity coursing through them. He winced, but didn't stop.

An acrid smell wafted through his nose as he saw a long, winding wire and pulled at it, getting the attention of the fury which grunted in pain. Knowing it was connected to something important inside of it, he cut through it as the fury suddenly stumbled back, hitting the wall.

The impact threw Seth right in front of it and his eyes met with the fury and he only had a moment before lightning touched the ground.

He ran, but a solid kick sent him tumbling through the ground as his back ached, sounds of bones breaking echoing in his ears.

“Seth!!” Rebecca ran up to him.

He groaned in pain, taking out the half vial of potion he had left and Rebecca helped him gulp it down. Feeling the warmth spreading through his chests, he let out a gasp.

“Fuck!” He cursed. “I can't wait to break every part of that golem.”

“In your current shape, you can't even scratch it. We need a better plan.”

“I know. We need to get a better pla—”

Another roar from the golem distracted him as both of them looked far ahead.

Xarth held his axe horizontally to defend against the assault of the fury who seemed angrier now than before after he had tried to pull out its wires. The beastman blocked the first few strikes, but the weight of them became too much.

The fury cut through his shoulders as Xarth cried out, biting his lips to focus on the battle.

Zara conjured up another ball of fire, but before it could hit the golem, one of its arrows struck it as it exploded right in her arms, the impact sending her right in front of the wall.

Xarth gritted his teeth to keep the battle going, but the fury simply picked him up as he flapped his arms around, his axe falling on the ground.

With a crushing sound, it broke the axe into two with a stomp and threw Xarth right onto the railings. He hit it and fell down, unmoving.

Its eyes moved to Rebecca and Seth next and it fired bolts of lightning towards them. A barrier appeared just in time to protect them, but cracks appeared and the next second, it broke.

Another bolt of lightning hit Rebecca as she yelped in pain and got thrown a few steps away. Seth quickly moved, rolling to dodge the bolt heading his way and picked her up.

His whole body hurt and every movement felt like he was pushing himself even with the health potion, but there was no time to think. Flickering away, he put Rebecca down and looked at her.

Her body constantly twitches and she seems to have lost consciousness. Her pale face was enough of an indication that she was suffering from emptying her mana reserves.

“Rebecca, Rebecca, can you hear me?” He asked, but there was no response. Thankfully, she was breathing, but he didn't have any health potions left.

What should I do now? He wondered and a slight tremor made him turn his eyes around.

The fury moved towards him, its axe crackling with lightning as it pointed it towards him. He immediately jumped, dodging the attack and made a run.

His heartbeat quickened as he felt lightning filling the whole room. All of his comrades were either dead or too injured to continue, and he was the only one left.

On top of it, the fury seemed to revel in chasing him down as it constantly let out grunting sounds.

A bolt of lightning crashed right in front of him and Seth flickered away.

Checking his status, he smiled. More than half of his mana was left and the only way to survive here was defeating the fury.

Deciding on the course of action, Seth charged right into the fury, his blade shimmering with abyssal mana as it jumped out of the way of its axe and slashed right below the core.

Unfortunately, it only took out chunks of stones as another swing of an axe came his way.

He flickered away, appearing on top of the fury and slashing right at Its eyes. It grunted in pain, even though the eye orb didn't break and took a step back. A bolt of lightning shot out for him and he flew away.

His body froze as his head hit the ground, sending stinging pain throughout.

He tried to move, but was unable to. Cursing, his eyes looked up and saw the fury approaching him. He tried to flicker away, but his magic channels seemed jammed and before he knew it, he was pulled up by the fury and thrown on a far wall.

His back hit it as he threw out blood. He again tried to move and realised it was much easier now. Still, it wasn't to an optimal level and he struggled to even stand.

More bolts made their way towards him and he managed to flicker, again appearing close to the fury and trying to aim for the orbs and the spinning core, but his movement was too slow.

The fury clobbered him into the ground with its axe, a crater formed under him as he screamed.

The world spun around Seth as he looked up at the fury, its red eyes gleaming as it tried to crush him. He tried to move his daggers, but it was impossible under so much weight.

Dread filled his heart as pain was all he could feel. He was bleeding from several points on his body and tons of his bones were broken and his attacks only put scratches onto the fury. There was no way to win.

He would simply die here like his party members. The Stormweaver's ruins were going to be his—

No! I can't fucking die here by a mechanical golem for fuck sake!

He closed his eyes, images of Sarah and home feeling his mind. He avoided thinking back to her, but just for that, he needed to persevere and live through it. But the question was how.

Suddenly, something filled his body. A sensation calling for him, a power he had refused to use till now and one he had seen glimpses of during his fight with Gideon.

A part of him wanted to refuse since Noah's words echoed in his mind, but if he didn't live through it, there was no point in anything.

Taking a deep breath, Seth decided on his next set of action and felt something seeping into him. A burning sensation filled him as he finally opened his eyes.

The fury moved, aiming to finish him off as he stomped, but a surge of mana blasted him off, making him fall on the ground as Seth slowly stood up and looked at his arms.

In a matter of seconds, his wounds healed, way better than even a health potion and mana flowed through his whole body as he felt something changing inside of him.

Notifications creeped up in front of him.

You have used the skill “Abyssal Form”.

All of your mana has been used! Your power had increased manifold! Your regenerative abilities have been amplified!

The skill “Unyielding” had been applied! All conditions have been met!

Your attack power had increased by 50 percent!

Feeling the power coursing through his body, Seth looked up at the fury who grunted in annoyance, seeing him still alive.

Then, he leapt off, his blade moving to destroy it.
