2025-04-11 13:15:59 +0000 UTCAbout Dante, he isnβt really an OP character but a showboat. Now the complaints probably come because the show is set around the time of DMC3. Itβs the most beloved game in the franchise (I prefer the first game). DMC3 is a prequel and you get to see a younger Dante.

What has a lot of people outraged is that the director of this adaption claimed to be as accurate to the lore as possible but dogwalks on so many things that fan consider to be DMC. As for why when it comes to videogame adaptations and why it riles up fans, there's only like a handful of good adaptations out there so when they see their franchise disrespected in a way they perceive as a cashgrab that just wants to profit off an existing IP(which most of the time is accurate) for example the Halo TV show and that female DOOM guy thing they did for a few years ago. As a new DMC fan who has only played DMC 5 and seen playthroughs of the others, I'm fine with the adaptation but I do wish some things are done differently. However, my god they butchered Borderlands. So I completely understand fans who get really upset when they change the source material. (It makes no sense to alienate the people that got a series to where it got by disrespecting the material and/or fanbase. Just take a look at marvel or star wars, the fans got them where they were/are and they got a slap for it.) I do partially agree it makes no sense for them to come to a react channel and tell them this is nothing like the games. Maybe they want you to experience the games instead, which they view as the superior product. TL/DR: Fans have been burned many times by shitty Hollywood adaptations and they just want something they are passionate about to be adapted properly( it doesnt have to be a 1 to 1 adaptation, some stuff can be changed as long as they keep the characters and the general themes of the story).

Yes, it creates its own story but it used characters and aspects from the games as Easter eggs and a rough draft. I like that they are using their own story, it keeps me (someone who has played multiple of the games, multiple times) interested in what they are doing with the story and what spin they are doing. I donβt want the same story told again, I would just play the game.
