I thought it was a great illustration that Sung was still a human being. That's the most real his character has been since this anime started. And they showed him plenty broken in the manhwa at that scene, so I don't really agree with you on that. Respectfully, of course. I'm not trying to start some twitter type ish on Patreon. lol. I just don't really agree with your assessment of the scene is all.

To hear people didn’t like it that last episode made me tear up and cry a bit Really well written you really felt everything he was going through. It’s really capture those moments so that’s more than just a picture of a moment.

Nicholas Castillo

She asked, "Smash or pass?" and the Ant King said, "Heads." XD

BarGamer

as a manhwa reader the anime made me cringe a bit just because they made sung cry a lot, it just seems weird to me since in the manhwa it was just like 2 panels of him tearing up which i liked better than how the anime made it Edit: I didnt dislike the episode it just made me cringe a bit

callme.NuKe

To clarify about the last episode being the most disliked episode. I assume you perhaps saw chibireviews video on it. I left a comment on his video so I'll repeat it here. It was not the most disliked video. Yes it had more dislikes then any other episode, but it also had a ton of likes as well. If you do the math the like to dislike ratio is about 1%, which is about what most of the other episodes get. It wasn't the most disliked video, but rather the most engaged video. At the time of chibi's video it had 1800 dislikes but 147,000 likes.

Damn I know I already posted a comment but coming back and reading everyone's post has made me curious of what people actually said about the last episode. But I know I shouldn't because I'll probably spend hours on reading comments that'll most likely raise my BP from how ridiculous some of them would sound. I shouldn't but it's so tempting.

Karen

I liked the last episode BUT I'm mainly here for the hands ngl. So I did like the last episode less than ep 8 for example but I didn't dislike it.

Meruem is here

"B**u" collecting heads.

Thamor

Idk about y'all but Mommy Kanae is a baddy too

Heavenly Demonic Emperor

PEAK episode next 3 gonna be awesome thank you guys Only thing i am a little sad about is that in the Manwha when Sung and Goto were about to go all out. In the Manwha the system said he was showing killing intent and if Sung did not end the fight quickly, he would get that "kill the enemy or your heart stops" Notifications. When i read that the first time it was really tense since it would be so crazy if he killed an S rank in front of them all

Oliver

You are pretty spot on. Some people can't handle an MC with insecurities it feels to real for them :)

Oliver

You know what happens when you just go, go, go? You get God of High School, wanted that to be so good but you can't sprint your way to being a great anime.

DevilMayCarter

I love how SL has approached the anime. Reminds me of fromsoft games that deliver a great game that is very very deep, but will give you the option of overlooking it with amazing (in this case animation) gameplay but give you the opportunity to explore the lore deeper for a better appreciation. Hypothetically this storty (which it doesn't) could end with Jinwoo both saving his mother and soloing Jeju then accepting chairman Go's offer to join the HA and eventually succeeding him but it doesn't. If your only complaint is the action of ep 8 then you haven't paid true attention to even the anime in which Jinwoo has mentioned multiple times his prepose is to cure his mother

Sid Duenas

some shows just kind of attract a certain audience (im lookin at you jjk 😄) and Solo Leveling being a power fantasy story tends to feed some insecurities; weak nobody becomes OP badass. so any sign of "weakness" might upset that specific portion of the audience. the irony is that jinwoo, at least as i see in the anime, never really showed insecurity despite his position as weakest, if anything his bravery in a way manifested into his ability to be OP.

pachinko

Typical toxic masculinity. All these incels see is the alpha power fantasy, so him having any emptions besides blind rage and unrestrained lust doesn't fit inside their square hole inside-the-box thinking. They're the same kind of people who want their fix regardless of the channel getting hacked. Just ignore them. I was hoping that SJW would pull out the whole posse on Goto, and just soloed the whole Jeju Island, offense AND defense, lolol

BarGamer

lol this is literally just Chimera Ant Arc

Pilausky

Edge lords? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but yall know people dont like change. Them making him cry rubbed certain (cough) (cough) *people who read solo level* people the wrong way cause they made him cry during the scene his mother returned. Personally i loved it cause we didnt get much emotions shown in the manwha

kingBD

I wouldnt say i dislike last ep . I just appreciate it & Director's take on it is exactly what i felt abt it . It just had to be there to put a closure on his previous goal & became a starting point for even bigger beatdown thats abt to happen moving forward

Laurent

Oh I did not know that the previous episode was the least favorite of people! I'm surprised. For me, it was one of my faves. I guess maybe I'm a sucker for a good OST, I really liked that song that played when his mom woke up. And I'm a huge sucker for reunion moments. That aside, this episode showed that he's still human despite how OP he is now. He has a goal like everyone else. He has People he cares about. His "weak/nervous" moment when he was giving his mom the elixir because he wasn't sure it was going to work or not. I feel like if they just showed him fighting and being strong all the time, it'll kind of lose it's spark. Like you can't relate to the guy anymore. Oh the scene where he was sparring that GOTO guy, in the Manhwa, when the fight was getting serious, his system was warning him of the blood lust so if that fight wasn't stopped, he would've gotten a quest kill the dude. I wished the kept that in.

Karen

I really loved the last episode. It definitely should not get the hate it did. I guess most people who watch Solo Leveling just dont like emotional moments, but I thought it was beautifully done and very cathartic. I may or may not have cried when Jinwoo started on the waterworks xD

Umbra_Nex

@YBRL you don’t have to hold them to it, I’ll do It for you. The outrage regarding the last Ep.9 would have been validated if it was a filler episode. Indeed it was not. There would have been no S-Leveling had it not been for our ML lead needing to save his mother. Yes, we all know this but seeing it come to fruition was a beautiful way of wrapping up the success of his first true goal for S-Leveling. Seeing him cry uncontrollably whilst knowing the power he wields inside of him brought me to tears. Without seeing this side of him, we would essentially have a psychopath with unmatched power seeking to destroy with no rhyme or reason. That is not the premise of the show. It's not surprising to know there exists an unspecified number of S-Leveling. cough cough, fans with little to no emotional intelligence who were negatively impacted by the most relevant episode of the series. There is something to say about this group of people, who for one... ignored the meaning of adaptation and two... need to have their fix of violence displayed above all else; take time out of their day to express their frustration to the point of affecting the series’ episode numbers. Like seriously WTF? If they had the emotional aptitude to put aside their narcissism for 20 minutes, they would see that it’s our ML’s need to keep his family alive and safe that might bring him to help with the ants seeing how he is determined to not get involved. My opinion mimics that of the Shifu Director's.... their frustration was about addicts needing immediate gratification to the point of declining an episode’s numbers because their fix was not met. Soooo...my advice for those aforementioned is a quote from the Shifu KDot...I suggest some Ayahuasca, strip the addiction from the bottom. Bwahahahahahaha

Bran Bran

Pretty sure the ant king ate the head right off the body (from what i remember in the manwha) might be wrong, maybe they show next episode how he killed her :0

Robz

Same, my favorite moment in all of SL

Robz

The negativity towards Japan wasn’t really present in the novel either. It was just the studio that did the manwha that added it in

Ross Lerma

I personally loved last weeks episode because they did the mother scene justice.

George McCall

The only complaints I've personally come across about this and last episode, are things cut from the manwha. That said, it's been noted that this is an adaptation of the light novel, that didn't include those scenes to begin with. I've also seen mention of some of the slight changes here and there that avoid any negativity shown towards Japan that was present in the manwha.

s4ean

I think Director is absolutely correct in that it was just the fight junkies that only like action that went out of their way to dislike the last episode.

SpartanManJDOGG

The only reason why it was that low of a score on the last episode because that crying scene was literally like 2 panels in the Manhwa 🤣🤣

Frieren

I think the dislikes from the kids who just wanna see punches and kicks. I honestly can’t respect it tbh

Shakir

Why did people dislike last weeks Solo Leveling? Because shonen / tiktok brain says they must have action only. Story? Slow moments? Nah don't need that. For some reason people can't handle shows not always being action, I really don't get it.

Elias

Jinwoo is like Goku he loves to fight n be tested

Black Hawk

jinwoo is just supposed to put the aura in the bag bro. they think him being emotional is super neg diff aura points
