2021-10-29 18:00:43 +0000 UTCActually, having just looked it up, it does seem that the Band of the Falcon is the intended translation and IS also a reference to the millennium falcon. From an interview with Miura Q2: Regarding the kanji "Taka," do you intend that to be Falcon or Hawk? Was there ever a conscious change in its usage, such as after Griffith's reincarnation, or has it always been "falcon" to you? “Falcon” or “Hawk”, both mean [鷹] in Japanese. In some dictionaries, “Falcon ” is translated as [隼(はやぶさ)] but there’s almost no difference. I used "Falcon" from the great name of the “Millennium Falcon" ship in Star Wars.

Also, whilst the band of the "hawk" has become the accepted English translation, Japan actually doesn't distinguish between Hawk and Falcon (both are just 鷹) - so it's pretty possible that the Band of the Hawk was actually intended to be the Band of the Falcon (which I doubt was a reference just an interesting thing).
2021-10-29 06:15:44 +0000 UTCThe title of the arc is literally just a nod to Star Wars. That's basically all it is. Miura was a fan of Star Wars so he made the name of the arc a reference to it. The plot of the arc has no similarities to Star Wars whatsoever from what I remember. But that's why people shorten the name to Millennium Falcon.
