If your previous install was Beta1.0, it is recommended to use a new folder. After extraction, you can launch using VaM2.exe in the install folder.

So what is the current state of Virt-A-Mate 2 (VAM2)? Is the project on hold or lost maybe team members? What is going on?

2026-02-26 16:19:35 +0000 UTCI've been looking at VAM2 Beta 1.1.1. I've been a member for years helping fund this project. The progress is honestly disappointing for the amount of time. It looks like you are about 10% of the way there, which means it will completed in about 18 years. Do you want engineering help?

2026-01-02 21:15:51 +0000 UTCVaM2 is pretty limited in functionality and content right now, especially compared to VaM1. You can enable VR in VaM2 now by clicking System->XR->XR (VR) Enabled in the UI tree and menu on the left. There is currently no UI in VR mode. The next release will included a dedicated toolbar button to enable VR and a way to launch into VR directly. In addition the next release will have a UI in VR so you can do more with the program within VR. VaM1 and VaM2 are separate programs and the content between them is not compatible. It will be a while before VaM2 reaches VaM1 capabilities and content levels. The VaM2 releases we are putting out now are geared more toward content creators so they can get a headstart on making content.

2025-12-09 11:36:20 +0000 UTCSo, I downloaded the demo of VAM, was like 'Oh this is cool', and it just worked in my VR, virtual desktop. So I upgraded to entertainer, because I don't want to make mods or games, just play. I downloaded this VAM 2, and ran the vam2.exe, and it pits me into this level editor of a sorts, so I tried to find my play button in there, but even if I manage that, the whole screen isn't designed vr, so I'm guessing I'm supposed to run Vam 1.22 , reinstall that, then maybe vam 1.22 will give me VAM2 content to play? Vam2.exe looks like a scene creator so I think I'm doing this wrong.

2025-12-09 02:18:01 +0000 UTCis there a faq for VAM2? What is its purpose? is it planned to be able to eventually support all the previous plugins?

2025-08-07 21:07:45 +0000 UTCBased on what you are saying it sounds like you installed over VaM1? VaM1 mods and addon content are not compatible with VaM2. VaM2 only has limited built-in addons at this point, and there are only a few VaM2 addons on the Hub right now. If this is the case, you should install VaM2 in a new folder.

2025-08-02 16:06:11 +0000 UTCIf you haven't already, can you try a new install folder? We don't officially support Linux. There might be a clue in the log file (Player.log) that normally gets created in Windows in C:/Users//AppData/LocalLow/MeshedVR/VaM2/Player.log, but I don't know where that would be located on your system. If it is hanging on load of addons catalog it suggests a problem reading one of the addon meta.json files during startup.

2025-08-02 14:34:25 +0000 UTCBeta 1.0 seemed to work just fine, this one not so much. Running on Linux through Steam Proton with an RTX 3090. After boot the UI just says "Reloading Addons Catalog". Buttons on the bottom row all seem to work but the rest of the UI is greyed out. CPU running at 120% for Vam2.exe.
