It's been one week since I published the Canticle demo. In that week, there have been more than 1,600 views and 400 downloads of the demo, and over 50 of you have joined me here on Patreon and my Discord server. When you're in the process of making a game (or any creative project), there's always this looming question about whether there is anyone out there who will see in it what you see in it, and I'm so happy and excited that a lot of you seem to enjoy the game as much as I enjoy making it.
So, as a thank you, I wanted to get something out to you on this blessed Lightsday, so that you may continue thirsting (for the Twin Goddesses' blessings, of course). Future updates will arrive in staggered 2-week releases based on Patreon tiers as set in the tier descriptions (Cantors first, then Scribes, then Acolytes), but this one is out for all patrons today.
Earlier this week, I put a poll out on our Discord asking about which of the five novices you liked the most in a romantic or sexual way. The winner was Soren. Because etymology is sexy. The purpose of this poll was twofold: I already explained the part about character redesigns (if you haven't voted on the heated Luca twink/twunk situation, you might want to hurry up and do it now before the poll closes); the second part was that whoever won the poll would be the first date added to the game in this impromptu update.
So, here are the changes:
CONTENT UPDATE | SOREN DATE

In the previous content update, we left off on Lightsday, and from that point, the story will branch out into 5 different dates or social encounters with whoever you took with you to Downprior. These will all be released together in the big Chapter 2 update coming soon. For this update, however, Soren's date has been unlocked early and added to the tail end of the game (as well as resolving the rest of the story at the Tipsy Prior first). To access Soren's date, in case you didn't take him to Downprior with you, you will have to reload the game to a save before going to Downprior and choose Soren as your companion.
SYSTEMS UPDATE 1 | HIDE DIALOGUE BUTTON
Don't you just hate it when that darn dialogue window pops up over the good stuff? Well, now you can hide it whenever you want and take it all in for however long you want before moving on with the show/hide dialogue buttons located on the bottom right of your screen. And you'll need it for your date with Soren, trust me.

SYSTEMS UPDATE 2 | AUTO-FORWARD
I've added an Auto-Forward feature in the settings. This will progress your dialogue without the need to click every time. Toggle it in your settings.

You can also adjust the speed at which text is auto-forwarded in the Settings.

DESIGN UPDATE | CANTICLE PUZZLES
Canticle puzzles have been redesigned!

Thank you for all your feedback about the Canticle puzzles. The consensus was that they can be fun, but due to iffy design, sometimes it was difficult to know what exactly was expected of you. I've redesigned them in 3 ways:
Blanks have been added so that it's clear where the Verse fragments are supposed to go.
The font has been changed to help with legibility.
A Remove Red Herrings button was added for those players who aren't so much into puzzles. This button removes all the Verse fragments that aren't used in the puzzle, leaving only the correct ones to be placed in the correct spots.
I think this redesign still leaves the puzzle as is for those who enjoyed them, while also allowing those players who didn't enjoy them as much an easier path forward.
CHANGES AND BUG FIXES
Chapter 1
You now no longer need Larceny to break into the parlor, but Larceny is still available as the quieter option.
Fixed a bug in the character creator that would get an error when trying to back out of your goddess selection.
Fixed an exploit in the Canticle puzzle.
Fixed inconsistency: You can no longer tell Soren you know what a certain phrase in Qitali means without having actually learned it.
Fixed dialogue: Luca no longer refers to "Firesday" (changed to Lightsday).
Fixed dialogue: the game no longer mentions "Revelations" (cut content).
Fixed various typos in the dialogue.
Chapter 2
Fixed a bug in the carrels where you could only enter them once, and the game returned an error screen upon entering them again.
Changed the time requirements for the different success tiers of the Illumination puzzle (Excellent = under 2 minutes; Good = under 4 minutes). The maximum time for an Adequate success was doubled from 5 to 10 minutes.
Fixed various typos in the dialogue.
