I have to explain the circumstances of this Radiohead comic series, represented here by the first 2, Ripcord and Nude.
In late 2021, after a best friend breakup who I made almost all my good stuff with (and 2 years of many other total life upheavals not to mention Covid) I was in a place I wanted to be a completely different person. Not even an artist of any kind.
I took the NASM to become a personal trainer and interned at Fit Body Bootcamp while Doordashing, waiting on a huge $ deposit that was delayed another 5 months due to the mental decline of a relative orchestrating our family farm deal. After 2 months of being a trainer, I spent 4 months in 2022 working every single day doing in-home therapeutic social work with youth and working in a mental hospital and getting on Prozac until I had a bad seizure at work, then $100,000 finally got deposited, and I was free to get new gear, travel with art models, and move to California.
What else happened in those 8 months? I started drawing my dog for comix and finding that creatively stimulating, and a subsequent Radiohead deep dive got me thinking about the Tori Amos lyric comics that existed and also how visual a lot of Thom Yorke's lyrics are, like Codex and Killer Cars. Songs like Let Down, Black Star, How to Disappear etc. had the yearning emotional sigh of just giving up long enough for a soul to lay down for a while, while Stop Whispering would be more about building oneself up, and things like Ripcord and Nude were more about engaging with dreams of an art career or a potential sexual relationship and the disappointment that comes along with those dreams.
I had the annoying idea to do each song in a completely different art style which in theory was good but I was inexperienced in all the art styles I chose so it was slow going. In that 2021/ early 2022 era I did a ton of art for a ton of songs and never finished any of them until Sept 2nd 2025. As stupid as it sounds, it was a choice to make them all square individual panels rather than comic pages that made it possible to finish.
