From an album about dreams and taking control of them, bringing them into the real world- this one is about a very bad dream. The shadowy lingering threat of sexual abuse that causes victims to fragment their memories as time passes, and the feeling rears its head without warning and towards situations completely unrelated to the abuse.
I wanted my Magda Luna project to be about things that I never hear other people talk or sing about, and Silhouette is definitely in that category.
Werner Herzog doesn't believe in psychoanalysis, because if "you illuminate every dark corner of a house, you will only see problems" though maybe this falls under his cause exception "if you need it of course then you better go and do it."
The animation was elements I did for an aborted NIN cover song video with Allie Goertz's "The Becoming", also my films "The Innocence of Seduction" (2016) and "The Last Days of Phil Ochs" (2019) all of which were highly influenced by shadow paper animator Lotte Reininger from the 1920s.
The music was originally designed as Barry White but went way darker towards Massive Attack, NIN, Portishead and in the last 30 seconds, Muse. I'm really proud of this.
