The concept of Invisible Hands goes in many directions - the ethereal forces of market capitalism, the Richard Scala conspiratorial comic made into animated segments on Liquid Television… these days I surrender to the invisible hands of universal flow and God, because I really don’t think there’s any other way to do this thing called a creative life. There’s phantom threads between all the important moments and things I’ve made and the good and bad things that happen and the way seeds planted and almost forgotten sprout after a decade.
Invisible Hands was written in 2006, when it was me and an electric guitar and fretless acoustic bass and drums lifted from Jesus Jones’ “Culture Vulture” multitracks. I attempted it again in 2012 with my art model creative partner Lydia and now in 2025 I have the version you hear.
The invisible hands of AI have crafted what I always wanted to hear for this song, something ethereal but kickass with a powerful yearning female vocal. In fact the melody is exactly what I made in 2006, which isn’t exactly something you can program in Suno AI, so that told me this song was always hovering and translated like sorcery into a butterfly emerging from its 2006 cocoon.
