When you’re the staff on 1:1, you try to drain off their anxiety and return them to baseline, mainly by creating an aura of safety and calm. When people are at the baseline they don’t consider things like self-harm or suicide, and then they are taken off 1:1 by the psych doctor.
Now, being around people in dark places affects all caregivers- it raises their anxiety, often times you are told the most horrible things known to man that drove people to be in this spot. My own ex-wife did not want to hear any work stories and plainly told me "I have too much on my plate to think about that." It's not a coincidence that many caregivers burn out or become addicts themselves, being 40+ hours in a building full of bad vibes trying to be turned into good vibes.
As far as the song itself, this is one of my favorites. It starts really simply like a Strokes or Revolver-era Beatles track and organically ramps up in intensity, swells into something abstract and epic like Susanne Sundfor, with no defined verses or choruses. I feel like it really channels trying to drag someone back into the light, dipping into their dark place and draining it into yourself.
