Hello Patrons! I missed doing a Sept update as a lot of stuff was in transition but since there's a lot to look forward to in October, I thought I'd do an early update around the Primordial Creative studio.
There's a lot of travel this month- LA, New Mexico, Portland + Nashville - partly due to opportunity, Fall break time off from the elementary school I teach at, and of course Halloween-themed shoots are my specialty. I found a service called Parachut that allows you to rent various gear for a monthly subscription fee, and it's lead me to a particular Fuji camera that shoots wide medium format, and hopefully a whole new cinematic style of work.
Speaking of teaching, I am a full-time elementary teacher now, which honestly feels really good. Patrick and Maggie are turning into teenagers and being more moody and weird and I love being around the younger ages. It hasn't cut into my photography opportunities, in fact the face above this post is a 20 year old co-worker named Brittany.
Having a regular decent-paying job is not an art detriment, in fact it means I can do things I couldn't when I was living gig to gig like:
apply for gallery shows, residencies, magazines that have submission fees
print new work
experiment with creative subscription stuff like Parachut or Splice
fly models to or from Arizona
develop a set schedule
create experimental new bodies of work without having to panic about having the NEW EXCITING thing on social media because I know my money is coming from somewhere else
join local art collectives like Art Intersection in Gilbert, AZ
develop a set schedule for creative time, work time and personal relationship time rather than being on all the time
The last bit of update business involves the Phoenix Zine Fest Oct 20th, where I'm tabling. The Zine Fest is always an incentive to develop new work and I've done 2 new ones which I'll show here closer to the date. Although I didn't advance very far in the comics I wanted to make this year, in the last few weeks I did end up doing one illustrated zine and a series of painted monsters for Art-O-Mat - it's pretty much all that time would allow for.

Thanks for sticking around! A lot of interesting shoots this month coming soon to Patreon!
