July Update + Spotify Playlist

Hello Patrons! July is a special month for me because both Maggie and I have birthdays in it, and it’s the first month I’ve planted the flag to not do any traditional kinds of shooting. Of course at this point I’ve been booked by a musician and an aspiring model to do traditional shoots so I guess that’s not exactly what’s happening, but I’m pretending I’m some sort of completely different person. 

The main things going on this month are a music project I’m involved in with Alina Lee aka Thumbelina and my animated Phil Ochs documentary. I work a bit on each of them daily. We should be filming a music video in LA on July 11th and that will also involve Glass Olive in some capacity, an old friend I was so grateful to reconnect with in June. 

Then I'm off to Northern AZ/ Southern UT and immediately after that Nashville again where I'm working with a musician named Stacey Randol - all art making trips, and it’s when I feel most ok and at my best right now.  

Which brings me to this month’s Spotify playlist, definitely an incredibly personal set starting with the acoustic demo “No Surface All Feeling” by the Manic Street Preachers leading into Nirvana’s “You Know You’re Right” and many other songs that tilt towards either the disintegration of relationships or the issue of artistic authenticity.  "Driftwood" by Travis and the acoustic "Watching The Wheels" by John Lennon summarize how I've been feeling about pretty much everything if you want to take a listen.

Some of these songs are ones I had practiced on acoustic guitar for when I played live at an open mic for the first time in June ("Cough Syrup", "How Come You Don't Want Me", "Tougher Than The Rest," "Señorita" to name a few). That was definitely an experience and of course being my first time I fucked up numerous times, but I’m signing up for some voice and piano lessons now to get better.
