New shoots update
Added 2018-01-25 21:00:00 +0000 UTCHey people! Just letting you know I made a pile of new work this week with McKenzie Eckels (5th round), Ana Corbi (3rd round) and Hailey J (2nd round). And Maggie (10,000th round). Lots of Instax Wide. Trippy video! Animated character puppets. I guess I'm out of model jail.
McKenzie has this book of Guy Bourdin Polaroid work that we treat like the Bible. It was fun to go through it, try to replicate the vibe in an ordinary living room. From Bourdin's wiki:
"Bourdin's photographs are often richly sensual but also rely heavily on provocation and ability to shock. Additionally integrating erotic, surreal, sinister components, Bourdin configured a whole new visual vocabulary with which to associate the goods of haute-couture. The narratives were strange and mysterious, often plainly exhibiting violence and graphic sexuality. Evident through astute reading of his compositional and thematic presentation, Bourdin profited from the influence of a diverse collection of contemporaries: first and foremost, his mentor Man Ray, but also the photographer Edward Weston, surrealist painters Magritte and Balthus, and Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel."
Man Ray, Weston, Luis Buñuel, that's like 3 heads of Mt. Rushmore to me! What I particularly loved about the Polaroid book is, for all the production that went into a magazine shoot, Bourdin really just had a vision of how things looked and felt and whether or not there was an elaborate set/ styling was irrelevant, at least in the Polaroid book. You can be yourself on any budget!
